Bravely Default 2 is the brand new JRPG from Square Enix, set to be released for the Nintendo Switch this week. The game features an innovative combat system, as well as a rather old-school fantasy story of a small party of heroes in search of four elemental crystals. Here’s how to catch monsters in Bravely Default 2.
Catching Monsters in Bravely Default 2
If you were hoping for some sort of tamer or blue mage job in Bravely Default 2, you’re in luck. Once you reach chapter 2 in the game, you’ll have the opportunity to get the Beastmaster Asterisk, which allows one of your party members to equip the Beastmaster job and start taming monsters.
Upon defeating the second boss of chapter 2, you’ll receive the Beastmaster Asterisk. Equip it on one of your characters, and you’ll gain access to various Taming abilities.
In combat, select the Capture ability under Taming to try to catch a monster. Your chances of success will increase depending on the amount of health the enemy has left. Basically, the lower the enemy’s HP, the higher chance you have of capturing the enemy. Do note that this ability does not work on humanoid foes.
In addition to that, if you level up the Beastmaster job enough on a character, you’ll gain access to the Beast Whisper passive ability as well. This gives you a 30% chance of capturing an enemy when defeated, bypassing the need to spend a turn on Capture.
It’s not quite as reliable as Capture, but it does save turns, and can be useful when you’re just trying to get through battles as fast as possible. You can then use monster abilities with the Off the Leash ability, but do note that the abilities are limited to how many of that particular monster you’ve caught.
That’s all you need to know about how to catch monsters in Bravely Default 2. Be sure to search for Twinfinite for more tips and information on the game.
