Spelunky 2

Recommended Videos

Spelunky 2 is a fantastic co-op platformer to enjoy on Valentine’s Day with a loved one as long as they’re very patient and competent at platformers. But if your significant other is not an avid video game player, then you may want to avoid this one.

The platforming might even throw off long-time fans of the genre since its focus is more on the vertical than horizontal. But if you and your loved one love platformers, are extremely patient, and have plenty of time to kill, then Spelunky 2 will give you hours of fun.

Streets of Rage 4

If you and your loved one are looking for a constructive co-op game to blow off some steam this Valentine’s Day, then Streets of Rage 4 is the best way to go. And it’s much better than a fighting game because you’re taking out your pent up aggression on a bunch of bad dudes instead of each other.

This cooperative beat ’em up game is the long-awaited follow up to the 1994 Streets of Rage 3. This game features beautiful art, classic beat ’em up gameplay, and up to four-player multiplayer.

Moving Out

One of the worst activities you can do with your loved one on any given day is moving. So naturally, a video game like Moving Out is one of the best things to play with your significant other. As boring as this may initially sound, don’t pass judgment too soon.

Just think Overcooked but with moving furniture. The game starts off innocently enough, with you just moving couches and other furniture out of houses, but it gradually escalates to the much more entertaining levels where you’re moving furniture out of moving trucks and planes.

Sackboy: A Big Adventure

If your loved one doesn’t care much for video games, then Sackboy: A Big Adventure just might change their tone. Even if it doesn’t, it features an ridiculously cute main character and gameplay that’s accessible to gamers of all skill levels.

The only difference between Sackboy and the Little Big Planet games is an extra dimension. This new game is a 3D platformer which can slightly complicate things for some people. Fortunately, the floaty physics make it relatively easy to control while jumping.

Haven

RPGs can be a bit unwieldy and difficult to get into for the casual gamer. However, Haven is not a bad place to start if you’re looking for a co-op game to play with your loved one this Valentine’s Day.

Haven can be fully completed by a single player, but jumping into it with someone close to you only makes the experience better. The game was something of a sleeper hit, boasting a beautiful art style, engaging battle system, and smooth movement. On top of that, the whole game follows the enthralling love story of the protagonists, Yu and Kay.

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury

This is a great co-op game to play with loved ones this Valentine’s Day. Everyone knows Mario, so it’s a pretty safe option for just about anyone, and Super Mario 3D World is just a great game in general. That being said, some of the later levels can get a bit challenging for non-gamers.

This linear 3D platformer that originally released on the Wii U is now available on the Nintendo Switch. The only difference is Bowser’s Fury, which only features local co-op. That’s no problem, though, because you just love spending countless hours with your loved one.

Minecraft Dungeons

If you’ve played Minecraft in the past, then forget everything you know – Minecraft Dungeons is all about multiplayer combat mayhem. Grab your loved one, plop down on the couch, and get ready to be locked there for hours.

Minecraft Dungeons still features the same unmistakable graphics, but the focus of the game is much different. The biggest focus of this title is on taking out dungeons full of Minecraft enemies. There are even multiple bosses throughout the game that will thoroughly challenge your teamwork.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons

If you plan on having a chilled time with your loved one, then Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the best option. The only catch is that you’ll both need to have your own Switch in order to play together. But New Horizons literally has an endless amount of things for you to do together.

No deadlines, no defined goals, and an island filled with fish and insects to catch is everything that makes New Horizons great. You get to decide what to do and how fast you do it. There’s no rush. Just hang out and enjoy the waves on the beach or climb to a high cliff and wish on a shooting star.
