Will Your Early Access Progress Carry Over in Baldur’s Gate 3?

It can be pretty hard to commit to a lengthy RPG on this scale without knowing whether you will just have to start the whole thing over again, and the answer is, unfortunately, that there are no guarantees.

Larian Studios, the developers of the Divinity: Original Sin games, and now the folks behind Baldur’s Gate 3, have stated that Early Access save data will not carry over to the full release, and further that any saved game progress in Early Access is likely to be affected whenever a major update to the game is applied.

Considering the size and scale of the project, this is likely going to be a regular occurrence over the cause of Baldur’s Gate 3’s Early Access period, which is estimated to go on for at least a year, although it could certainly be longer.

That’s a scary prospect for anyone, even the most dedicated of players. There is quite a bit of content already included in the Early Access version of the game, and having to play it over again is a fairly big ask, after all.

That being said, its all a matter of perspective. You can look at it as a way to play the game in way you normally wouldn’t, like as as marauding villain instead of a boring old hero.

Take the opportunity to play as a class that you normally wouldn’t want to commit an entire playthrough too, and bring along companions you might normally leave on the bench. You never know, you might just discover a new favorite.

Hopefully, that has answered the question of whether your Early Access progress will carry over in Baldur’s Gate 3. For more on Larian’s latest release, check out our coverage here.
