The first thing to note is that there are a couple of restrictions. First of all, you cannot play online co-op in all of Ultimate Team’s modes. FUT Champs and Draft are off limits, for whatever reason. Also, you cannot do two friends vs. two friends. Again, why that is we don’t know. It’s quite a big thing to leave out of a big new feature.

How to Play Online Co-Op in Ultimate Team in FIFA 21

From anywhere in Ultimate Team, you’re able to set up an online co-op lobby. What you need to do is press R2 if you’re on PS4 (RT on Xbox One) and press Options/Menu to bring up the Co-Op Lobby area.

Then, select the little plus icon below your tile and a menu of all your friends who play FIFA 21 will pop up in the bottom right. It’s the same one that appears when you first press R2/RT.

Press X/A to invite the player you want and wait for them to accept it and appear in the lobby. From there you’ll be able to head into the menus for the modes just as you usually would.

Just jump into a Squad Battles, Rivals, or Friendlies game, depending on which one you fancy.

Do not that, in Rivals, you can press L2/LT to change the matchmaking options for the mode. When you do, a menu will appear and you can select ‘Play against solo players only’ or ‘Play against solo or co-op opponents.’ There’s no option for 2v2 only matchmaking.
