For a free-to-play single-player game originally designed for mobile, Genshin Impact is made to a surprisingly high standard. Its open-world is vast, pretty, and packed with secrets to discover, and the combat system is both deep and entertaining. Still, there are one or two luck-based systems typical of an eastern, free-to-play game that governs progression. Here’s how to get wishes in Genshin Impact.
What Wishes are in Genshin Impact
Genshin Impact’s Wish mechanic is unlocked after the tutorial section of the game, when players reach Adventure Rank Level 5 after arriving at Mondstadt Town and speaking with the Knights of Favonius.
This is the game’s gacha system, which governs which new weapons, characters, and items are gifted to players. If you look at the Wishes page, you’ll see three different banners that each offer a chance of receiving one or two specific rewards, while the rest will be random.
Each time you purchase a wish, you are basically gambling currency in a dice roll that may or may not gift you with the reward you want.
How to Get Wishes in Genshin Impact
Wishes are made in exchange for two currencies: Acquaint Fate and Intertwined Fate.
You will accumulate these currencies as you play through the game organically, by completing quests and ticking off temples and other activities.
However, you can, of course, speed that process up by purchasing them — and you will likely need to do so since progression is otherwise rather slow.
Acquaint Fate and Intertwined Fate are purchased with Primogems, another currency that you’ll also accumulate organically throughout the game world by basically performing any notable action: questing, fighting enemies, unlocking chests, and even reading tutorials.
But you need a lot of Primogem to purchase substantial amounts of Acquaint and Intertwined Fate, which means you’ll often be prompted to purchase that currency with, yes, another currency.
This time, it’s Genesis Crystals, and these are microtransaction curency that you purchase from the storefront.
One final way to get more Acquaint and Intertwined Fate is to exchange them for Stardust, which can be done from the shop. Each day Paimon will offer you different bargains, and there’s often one for Acquaint and Intertwined Fate. Stardust and Starglitter are actually Wish rewards themselves.
