The Last of Us 2 is a pretty linear and straightforward game for the most part, but there are still a few things you can do in the game even after you’ve beaten it. If you’ve cleared the story and are still looking for reasons to return to it, here are some things you can do after beating The Last of Us 2.
Play New Game +
After beating the main game, you’ll be able to restart with New Game +, which allows you to carry over all of your weapon and character upgrades to a fresh campaign. It’s a good way of re-experiencing the game, as you don’t have to worry about collecting scavenged parts or supplementary pills to get more upgrades.
There’s one catch, though, New Game + is harder than a regular campaign. So for instance, Moderate + will be tougher than Moderate, and enemies will basically scale to match the fact that you’re starting with a bigger arsenal. It’s still manageable, though, and you can also increase the difficulty as you go on.
Start a Fresh New Game on Survivor
If starting New Game + with all your unlocked upgrades doesn’t sound all that fun to you, why not start a fresh new game instead? Except this time, increase the difficulty level.
The first game was extremely punishing on the higher difficulty settings, and the same goes for The Last of Us Part II as well. You’ll want to start with Hard before moving on to Survivor, and learn the levels in and out and know where you can get your resources and crafting materials.
Once you reach Survivor, ammo and resources will become extremely scarce, and your ability to clear levels without wasting your stuff will be tested here.
Collect All Notes and Collectibles
The world of The Last of Us 2 is extremely fleshed out, and just playing through the main story itself won’t give you the full picture of everything that’s going on in this post-apocalyptic climate. There are still things to learn about the Seraphites and the Washington Liberation Front, and they can only be discovered by reading the notes you find scattered around the world.
These are often interesting to peruse, and help to give context to the actions of some of these organizations.
In addition to that, there are also trading cards to collect for Ellie, as well as coins to collect for Abby. These don’t have any impact or bearing on the story, but they’re always nice to have if you’re a completionist.
And those are our suggestions for things to do after beating The Last of Us 2. Be sure to check our guide wiki for more tips and information on the game.
