The Wistful Painting in Animal Crossing New Horizons is based on Johannes Vermeer’s ‘Girl with a Pearl Earring’ painting. It features a girl, looking right back at you, donning a silver, pearl earring. If you’re wondering how to get this piece of art and add it to Blathers’ collection in the museum, you’re in the right place.

How to Get Wistful Painting in Animal Crossing New Horizons

As is the case with all other paintings in Animal Crossing New Horizons, the Wistful Painting can be bought from Redd when he visits your island.

This will happen when you’ve had him show up in your plaza for the first time and offered you a painting. After buying this and opening the art wing of the Museum (done by handing Blathers the art you first buy from Redd), you’ll now trigger Redd showing up.

You now simply need to check the beach to the north of your island each week. Redd will show up their randomly roughly once a week, and you can step on his boat to browse the other art he has for sale.

Whether it’s real or fake, you’ll be able to buy whatever art he has with him for 4,980 Bells.

This is the only way you can currently get art in Animal Crossing New Horizons, unless you’ve got a friend willing to just give you free bits of artwork.

Wistful Painting Real & Fake Differences

To make sure you’re not wasting your Bells, you’ll want to make sure that the Wistful Painting is real.

You can tell if you’re looking at the fake by checking the girl’s earring in the picture. If it’s star-shaped, it’s a fake. Here’s what the fake Wistful Painting looks like below:

In the real Wistful Painting, the girl is wearing a pearl-shaped earring. Pay close attention to this and make sure you’re not buying the fake before handing over your Bells to Redd.
