Apex Legends Season 5 is going live on May 12, which is right around the corner. We all know that a new Battle Pass is coming, but Respawn is adding much more than that this time around. Here’s what’s new in Apex Legends Season 5, Fortune’s Favor.
A New Legend (Loba)
Loba is a master thief who seems to be prepared for almost any situation. We’ll have to wait until May 12 to use her in matches, but we can get glimpses of what she can do by looking at the Apex Legends Season 5 gameplay reveal and her character trailer.
Loba’s Tactical ability, Burglar’s Best Friend, allows her to throw a Jump Drive bracelet, then teleport to it. Her Passive Ability, Eye For Quality, lets her see epic and legendary loot through walls, so she’ll know exactly where to go first during a drop.
Her Ultimate is called Black Market Boutique, and it shows you all of the loot in the area, allowing teammates to take up to two items from Loba’s device. It’s a bit of a double-edged sword though, because enemies can take loot from it as well.
Her teleport bracelet could potentially be just as tricky to deal with as Wraith’s phasing ability, especially in tense situations. Loba’s Ultimate might even be a safer alternative to Lifeline’s enemy beacon care package.
Part of Loba’s backstory was already given to us in the Revenant-focused Season 4 launch trailer. The ruthless robot is the one who killed her parents, and she’s joined the Apex Games in Season 5 for revenge.
A New Kings Canyon
Almost every season of Apex Legends has come with a new map change, and this one is no different. This’ll actually be the third version of Kings Canyon that we’ve seen since the game launched.
This time, fan-favorite drop zones Skulltown and Thunderdome have sunken into the sea thanks to Loba’s dramatic entrance.
The map now contains signs of construction being done alongside a new area named Salvage.
Quests
Quests are a completely new feature in Apex Legends, starting in Season 5. This season’s quest is titled The Broken Ghost, and it’ll add more lore and story elements to the game. This quest is essentially a season-long hunt for nine pieces of a strange artifact.
Once you recover all nine pieces, you’ll be given various rewards, as well as new lore in a new storyline that focuses on the Legends’ lives outside of the Apex Games.
Treasure Packs
In Apex Legends Season 5, players will need to collect Treasure Packs and complete Hunts in order to acquire those nine artifact pieces.
There will be 45 Treasure Packs in total. Only one can be obtained per week, and they can be found in loot containers in any PvP mode, including Ranked.
The Treasure Packs don’t take up space in your inventory, which is great news.
The pack will be waiting for you in the lobby after a match if you manage to grab one. Each pack can provide Crafting Metals, Battle Pass XP, Apex Packs, or the ability to access the weekly Hunt.
PvE Hunts
A new Hunt will be made available each week in Season 5 of Apex Legends. The Hunts are similar to Bloodhound’s Old Ways Event. You’ll be once again fighting off prowlers, but this time, it’ll be at night in Kings Canyon.
Players will need to rush to a target location, nab the artifact piece, then make their way to an extraction point. Hunts can be completed either solo or in a squad, and solo players are given a few auto-revives to aid them.
Completing each Hunt will net you an artifact, a new weapon charm, and a new chapter in the Broken Ghost storyline.
Any Hunts that you unlock can be replayed any time for the duration of Season 5, with the first one coming on May 19.
New Battle Pass
A new Battle Pass is something that players have come to expect with each new season of Apex Legends. The Season 5 Battle Pass will cost 950 Apex Coins, and it’ll instantly unlock skins for the Hemlok, Wraith, Revenant, and Bloodhound.
If you’re feeling generous, you can buy the deluxe pass for 2,800 Apex Coins, and it’ll unlock the first 25 Battle Pass levels along with a new Mirage skin. You can check out the recently released trailer to see the pass cosmetics in-game.
Legend Balances
The patch notes for Apex Legends Season 5 are now available. Respawn has applied a good amount of buffs alongside a few nerfs to certain characters. Mirage got the most buffs, surprising no one.
His decoys now last longer, plus he can control them. His cloaking turns on when he goes to revive a teammate now as well.
The nerfs only truly affected Pathfinder and Gibraltar, which should also be unsurprising. Gibraltar’s Dome Shield now only lasts 12 seconds instead of 18, and Pathfinder’s Grappling Hook cooldown has gone up from 15 seconds to 35 seconds.
Another significant change is that Caustic’s gas no longer slows his teammates down, and his traps can’t activate from the other side of closed doors anymore.

Weapon and Armor Adjustments
Respawn has recently begun rotating which guns can be found as gold loot, and which ones can be found in care packages. This season, the fully-kitted gold guns are as follows:
- Longbow DMR
- Hemlok
- Spitfire
- EVA-8
- RE-45
As for care packages, the Mastiff can now be found as regular loot, and the Peacekeeper can only be found in package drops. To make this change balanced, the Mastiff had its damage nerfed and the Peacekeeper had its projectile size increased accordingly.
The Alternator had its mag size increased from 16 to 19, and the Havoc had its recoil increased. Additionally, the Anvil Receiver hop up is being replaced by the Skullpiercer, which adds headshot damage to the Wingman and Longbow.
Only one major adjustment has been made for armor. The gold shield has been given the following balance changes:
- Added Perk: Shield Cells & Syringes give double the amount per use.
- Removed Perk: Removed 50% heal speed.
