With the COVID-19 pandemic causing the cancellation of many gaming events around the world, Tokyo Game Show 2020 is the latest victim.
Today the Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association sent a press release announcing that the physical show has been canceled and will be replaced by an online event.
The show was supposed to be hosted at the traditional Makuhari Messe Venue in Chiba, near Tokyo, between September 24 and September 27.

Due to the outbreak of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) on a global scale and the situation remains unpredictable in Japan as well, the organizer and the co-organizers have reached this decision after a long consideration to place the utmost priority on the health and safety of visitors, exhibitors and stakeholders. We ask for your kind understanding and cooperation.
More information about the event will be provided on the official website and via further press releases starting in late May.
This follows the cancellation of the physical celebrations of both E3 and Gamescom, meaning that the usual trilogy of summer gaming events that has delighted us for many years won’t happen at all in 2020, at least not in its traditional form.
On a personal note, Tokyo Game Show is by far my favorite show, and I look forward to be back in 2021.
