The Stauros’ Burn is a boss drop, and while some other guns in the DLC drop from killing certain minibosses, this particular assault rifle comes from beating the Wendigo.
On The Horror in the Woods quest (where you also have the chance to find the Mutant) in The Cankerwood map, you will eventually end up fighting the Wendigo. The Wendigo is a story boss, so it’s an unmissable fight that you will undergo with Hammerlock at your side. As long as you are following the story you will fight this monster and get a chance for the Stauros’ Burn.
Stauros’ Burn legendary Assault Rifle Stats and Perks
As this is a very Jakobs centered DLC, it was nice to see a weapon from a different manufacturer drop. The Stauros’ Burn, for the most part, is a pretty typical COV weapon, but its ability lies in the standard operation for COV weapons. While not exactly usual, the ability of the gun is spelled out on the item card.
As you know, COV weapons don’t have a magazine, they just overheat and cooling them down is the reload. However, with the Stauros’ Burn, when it breaks down, it has a chance to “Combust” which makes every shot a critical hit (no matter where the shots hit the enemy) and lights the player on fire. Yes, you take damage the whole time until it breaks.
While it sounds like you can simply keep the gun in Combust mode, the heat gauge rises even when not firing, and will eventually break all by itself, so you only have a limited amount of time.
