Performing Melee Attacks in Resident Evil 3

To melee attack, you’ll need to have your knife equipped. This is done by holding L2 on PS4 or LT on Xbox One, and then pressing R2 or RT to melee with the knife.

It should go without saying that you’ll need to be up close and personal with the undead if you want to use a melee attack, as Jill can only reach so far with her knife.

Melee attacks in Resident Evil 3 also aren’t anywhere near as effective at dealing damage to zombies as firearms. Even a few headshots with the pistol is more effective at dropping enemies than multiple swings of your knife.

We’d suggest only using your melee when you’re surrounded by zombies and you need to buy yourself a bit of time and space to escape or fend them off.

Using Carlos’ Melee Attack

Later in the game, you’ll play as Carlos. His melee attack is slightly different to Jill’s in that he has a quick punch attack that you can use. To use Carlos’ melee attack, simply press R1 on PS4, or RB on Xbox One.

Just like Jill’s knife attack, Carlos’s punch is not all that powerful so you will need to use it multiple times if you’re trying to kill a zombie with it.

That’s everything you need to know about how to melee in Resident Evil 3. Head over to our wiki for more tips or check out more of our coverage below.
