Apparently, gamers really, really want to play The Wonderful 101 on a current-generation platform.
Earlier today, PlatinumGames revealed a Kickstarter campaign for a remastered version of its action game The Wonderful 101.
The original $50,000 goal involved a launch on Nintendo Switch.
The first stretch goal of $250,000 for a PC version via Steam was passed in approximately 40 minutes.
Now, two and a half hours in, backers shattered the second stretch goal of $500,000 unlocking a PS4 version.
Yes. You have read it right. This made half a million dollars in less than three hours. It’s certainly not a bad achievement for a niche game that didn’t sell all that well when it originally launched on Wii U in 2013.
That being said, PlatinumGames’ popularity has skyrocketed since then, even thanks to multiple widely acclaimed releases like NieR: Automata, Bayonetta 2, and Astral Chain.
Over the past couple of years, the developer had teased the will relaunch The Wonderful 101 many times, so it’sn not surprising that fans were ready to pounce as soon as the occasion to support the project presented itself.
At the moment of this writing, the following stretch goals have not been announced, but we’ll let you know when they are.
With a month to go on the clock, it’s doubtless that PlatinumGames will find ways to capitalize further pledges.
Incidentally, today we also heard that they have four (likely self-published) projects in store, three of which have not been revealed yet.
