If you subscribe to Microsoft’s online platform, you are also gifted a few free games every month through Games with Gold. While the offical list has yet to be released for the upcoming month of February 2020, we have some predictions as to what those free games might be.

Usually a larger game headlines the list, and 2014’s Thief reboot is looking like a promising pick.

Thief is a title that went somewhat under the radar back when it released in 2014. It’s a basic stealth game that had some interesting gameplay mechanics in an open-world environment, but overall was lacking in story and mission quality to make it memorable.

It was developed by Eidos-Montréal, which is owned by Square Enix Europe that is a subsidiary of Square Enix.

Microsoft has had no trouble including Square Enix games on Games with Gold in the past, like Hitman: Absolution in April 2014, Tomb Raider in March 2015, Just Cause 2 in June 2015, and Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition in December 2016.

The Smaller Game – Life is Strange

Xbox Games with Gold Predictions

On the same Square Enix train, Life is Strange would be a perfect pick for the smaller title on the Xbox free games list for February 2020.

Similar episodic-styled titles have been included on Games with Gold in the past, like Telltale’s The Walking Dead: The Complete First Season in October 2015 or Batman: The Telltale Series just last month in January 2020.

Sometimes Microsoft will only offer the first season to entice players to purchase the rest as the game as it comes out. But in this case it will likely offer all five episodes of Life is Strange as it’s been a while since the game’s episodes were released in 2015. Much like the whole Batman series was offered last month whereas only the first season of the Walking Dead series was offered in 2015 in between the game’s second and third season.

Life is Strange has also already been offered on Sony’s similar PS Plus program back in June 2017. When a game has been offered on PS Plus, there is a greater chance it will be offered for free on Games with Gold in the future and vice versa.

It’s a great game, at least we think so as we named it one of our best games of the decade recently and was our runner-up for GOTY in 2015. Of course it has a sequel too which is also a great game.

Make sure to check back in the next week or so when the official free games list for February 2020 for Xbox One Games with Gold from Microsoft will be released.
