The trailer showcases plenty of gameplay including combat and mech customization.

We also get to see how the campaign works, letting us find contracts and do everything a mercenary commander needs to do on the starmap.

You can check it out below and try not to be impressed.

If you’re unfamiliar with the MechWarrior franchise, it debuted in 1989, and pretty much slid into obscurity in 2002 after MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries.

Its namesake is a tabletop RPG, part of FASA’s BattleTech universe. This name might likely ring a bell since Harebrained Schemes recently released its Battletech turn-based strategy game.  MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries is set in the same universe, but places you in direct command of a simulated mech…

… Which is awesome.

If you want to see more of MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries, you can also check out the previous trailer, another trailer from December last year, alongside plenty more spectacular gameplay.

The game releases exclusively for PC on the Epic Games Store on December 10, 2020.

As an old fan of the franchise since before it debuted in video game form, it almost feel surreal that we’re about to get a new MechWarrior game. Yet, it also feels so sweet.
