How to Upgrade Your Bike in Pokemon Sword and Shield

We’re going to go ahead and assume you have the bike already otherwise why are you wondering about upgrading something you don’t even have yet. But just in case, here’s the link to our guide on how to get the bike. Spoilers: you can’t miss it, you’ll get it through the main story.

The first and most important upgrade to the bike, the ability to cross water is also unmissable but you get this much later on in the story, towards the end. Once again, we have a guide about how to cross water, surf, and get that critical bike upgrade, but the quick version is you need to play until you get the 6th badge, and shortly after the main story will guide you towards that second bike upgrade.

The optional upgrades affect the turbo boost of the bike, allowing it to charge back up faster. This is critically important for the Rotom Rally event that takes place in the Wild Lands, and is also just nice to have in general.

To get the bike upgrades that will increase your Turbo Boost in Pokemon Sword and Shield, go out to the Wild Area and speak to the men in the white and black Uniform. They are all over the Wild Area and are the same NPCs that will allow you to trade Watts for items.

An easy one to get to if you don’t feel like looking around is the one right outside Hammerlocke. Fly to entrance of Hammerlocke and simply walk backwards right out into the wild area. He’s right by the gate.

The bike upgrades cost watts, with the second and third ones in particular costing a 3,000 and 5,000 each, it can get a bit pricy.

However, it’s a decent longterm investment as you’ll be able to farm Rotom Rallies to get the highest possible score and increase your Watt rewards from them. If you need help farming Watts, check out our guide for how to get them fast.

There are three turbo boosts you can buy in total and once you have them all, your bike is fully upgraded.

That’s all you need to know for how to upgrade the bike in Pokemon Sword and Shield. For more tips, tricks, and FAQs answered, be sure to check out our Sword and Shield wiki guide.
