Just yesterday, it was reported that Pokemon Sword & Shield managed to pass 1.3 million copies sold in Japan, which was already impressive enough. However, Game Freak and The Pokemon Company have just announced the global sales numbers for the latest entries in the massively popular monster-catching franchise.

During its launch week, Pokemon Sword & Shield managed to sell over six million copies worldwide, instantly making them the fastest selling games on the Nintendo Switch.

Again, this news comes in light of the recent controversy surrounding Game Freak and the new Pokemon games, including the fact that a portion of the fan base had spoken out against them for not including the National Pokedex. Even so, the franchise’s popularity is undeniable, as evidenced by its high sales numbers.

Set in the British-inspired Galar region, Pokemon Sword & Shield comes with a few new features, including the ability to camp and cook curry for your Pokemon, along with open world-like Wild Areas and multiplayer raids with Dynamax and Gigantamax Pokemon.

Pokemon Sword & Shield are now available exclusively on the Nintendo Switch, and our own official review of the game will be up in the coming days, so be sure to keep an eye out for that one.
