Modern Warfare may take us back to the Call of Duty titles of past and brings back the single-player campaign, but there are still some features that you’d expect from the modern iterations. So that you can play from your couch, here’s everything you need to know about how to play splitscreen multiplayer in Modern Warfare.
Co-op is a big focus of this year’s game, with you being able to play splitscreen in the traditional multiplayer modes as well as the Spec Ops missions.
How to Play Splitscreen Multiplayer in Modern Warfare
Actually setting up splitscreen multiplayer is pretty tricky. The first thing you need to do is turn on the second controller. Then, in the top right of the screen you’ll see the ‘Press X/A to join the game’ message. Do what the game tells you.
Then, the second player will be prompted to set up/sign into an Activision account. You have to do this, otherwise, you simply won’t be able to play splitscreen multiplayer in Modern Warfare.
You’ll have to put in a username and password, and agree to a few legal things, and you’ll be done. It doesn’t take long, but it’s a bit frustrating that you have to do it just so that you can have a bit of fun with a friend in splitscreen multiplayer.
Once you’ve done all that, you’ll see a second character walking around on the screen when waiting in a lobby. That shows that the second player has successfully joined the game.
You also shouldn’t need to go through this process for the second account once it has been done once.
Time needed: 1 minute
