If you want a buddy to join you on your spooky quest, here’s how to play co-op multiplayer in Luigi’s Mansion 3.
How to Play Co-Op Multiplayer in Luigi’s Mansion 3
Luigi’s Mansion has two online modes and one local co-op mode that you can check out if you want to capture ghosts with friends and other players from around the world.
In order to play co-op multiplayer in the main campaign of the game, you need to unlock Gooigi first, which is an ability given to Luigi from Professor E. Gadd once you’ve progressed enough in the game, around an hour or two after the intro.
Gooigi is an ectoplasmic version of Luigi that can slip through grates and walk across spikes, among other things. Another player can grab a Joy-Con and control Gooigi and help Luigi on his quest.
Playing as Gooigi
First, to play co-op multiplayer, you need to press the + button to go into the menu and then hit the Co-Op button. The game will then prompt you to connect a second controller and then after that is done, you will be all set to play with a friend.
Now, if you want to check out the other multiplayer modes, these can be found in a different menu.
How to Play Online Multiplayer
The ScareScraper mode can be found in the main menu or by pressing the online button in E. Gadd’s lab. This mode has you going through multiple floors of the hotel and sucking up ghosts for points. This mode can be played both locally and online with up to four players.
The other multiplayer mode, ScreamPark, is played locally only and is essentially a mini-game mode that can be played with up to eight players and if you have five or more players, you can only play with horizontal Joy-Con controllers or Pro Controllers. This can also be accessed via the main title screen or from E. Gadd’s lab.
