The first thing you need to know is that not all of Concrete Genie’s story mode is playable in VR. In fact, the VR section of the game is entirely separate.

How to Play VR Modes in Concrete Genie & What They Are

When you start up the game and reach the main menu, you’ll see a VR Experience option. To access it, you’ll need to have a PSVR headset, PlayStation Camera, and two Move Controllers connected.

You cannot play with a DualShock 4 so just connect everything up and the VR Experience option will become selectable. After a brief introduction, you’ll then be brought to a menu that allows you to choose the VR mode you want to play, of which there are two.

The first and main one sees you follow a Genie named Splotch, painting in a series of rooms to activate crystals and progress. You’ll travel to mysterious rooms and beautiful meadows, unlocking new painting options as you go.

It’s little more than a glorified tutorial to the main story mode, but it’s a fun and relaxing way to learn what Concrete Genie is all about.

The second mode, which you unlock after you finish the first VR Experience mode, is called Free Paint and sees you paint whatever you like in some familiar spaces from the main story. It’s a simple and enjoyable way to show off your creativity.
