Joy in Suffering

First things first, you’ll need to head to the Tower to talk to Banshee-44, who will then give you the first quest step titled Joy in Suffering. The requirements for this are pretty straightforward, as listed below:

  1. Complete a Lost Sector in the EDZ

  2. Complete a Heroic Public Event

  3. Complete a Nightfall Strike

The first two requirements should be a walk in the park. Simply warp over to the EDZ and clear out any of the Lost Sectors to knock out the first step, then complete a Heroic Public Event there while you’re at it.

The Nightfall, on the other hand, might be a little trickier to complete, but the lower difficulties don’t require a matchmade fireteam at least, so you can go for that if you like as it counts all the sane.

Risk/Reward

Upon completing the first quest step for Pain and Gain, you’ll get a new mission called Risk/Reward.

As far as Exotic quests go, this mission is pretty easy to clear as well. The only tricky thing to note is that at the start of the quest, you’ll have to kill three Captains of Dusk to proceed. To get them to spawn, you simply need to kill enough of the regular enemies.

After that, follow your objective markers and you’ll eventually be led to the Riskrunner Exotic SMG. Complete the mission, head back to the Tower to talk to Banshee-44, and you’ll be rewarded with the Riskrunner Exotic Catalyst.

That’s all you need to know about how to complete the Pain and Gain Exotic quest in Destiny 2 Shadowkeep. Be sure to check our Shadowkeep guide wiki for more tips and information on the game.
