The Surge 2 wouldn’t be a Souls-like game without the ability to backstab, but it can be trickier to pull off than some might expect. That’s why we’re here to walk you through how to backstab in Surge 2.
How to Backstab in The Surge 2
While similar to the mechanic found in Soulsborne games, The Surge 2’s backstab takes a few extra steps to execute properly.
For starters, you’ll need to be in sneak mode by holding the sneak button both while approaching your enemy of choice and when you wish to execute one. Failing to do this will result in you being detected by the enemy, forcing you into face-to-face combat.
After entering sneak mode, lock on to and head toward the back of the enemy you wish to attack. The lock-on reticle will appear red once you’re close enough to execute the backstab.
From there all you need to do is press the attack button. This will trigger the backstab and deal massive damage to the enemy, stunning them for a small period of time afterward.
So to summarize to Backstab in The Surge 2:

As for when you should backstab enemies in The Surge 2, it varies based on the situation you find yourself in.
If you can confirm an enemy is alone and that more won’t spot you on your way toward them, then a stealthier attack is the ideal way to eliminate them and prevent health lost from a scuffle.
On the other hand, if it seems like you’re being set up for an ambush or that backstabbing one enemy could draw the ire of several more, you may be better served looking for another plan of attack.
That should cover everything you’d need to know about how to backstab in The Surge 2. For more on the game, check out our feature on why Bloodborne fans should have The Surge 2 on their radars.
