How to Change Difficulty

Obviously, if you’ve started your playthrough of Borderlands 3 then you’ll already know there’s a difficulty option at the start of the game.

Thankfully, you can also change the difficulty once you have started the game, so you aren’t locked into your original choice.

To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Open the menu by pressing the appropriate button on your platform (options on PS4, view button on Xbox One, Escape on PC).

  2. Cycle to the Gameplay menu and select Difficulty (top option).

Importantly, you’ll be pleased to know that changing the game’s difficulty only affects your own personal playthrough, so if you’re playing in a group of buddies you don’t need to worry about spoiling their experience.

Also, initially you’ll only have the option to play either on normal or easy mode. However, once you have completed the game there will be further options available to you if you’re interested in a further challenge.

This comes in the form of Mayhem Mode, which can be toggled on or off once you’ve beaten the game the first time. It’ll also net you a bunch of rewards each time you take Mayhem Mode up one of its three notches.

That should be everything you need to know about how to change the difficulty in Borderlands 3. If you’re after more tips and guides on the game then feel free to check out our guide wiki-page.
