Following yesterday’s reveal of the career mode changes that are being made for FIFA 20, a new Pitch Notes article has been released to detail the new VOLTA mode.
The main focus of the article is the VOTLA gameplay and how it compares to that of 11 v 11 gameplay. EA Sports has emphasised that the different match set-up options can make matches feel very different. Even just in terms of the basic match structure, you can play in the following ways:
- 3 v 3 Rush (no GK)
- 4 v 4
- 4 v 4 Rush
- 5 v 5
- Futsal rules
With each different VOLTA set up, you can change things like goal sizes, the firmness of the walls, or whether you want walls at all. The rules are more lenient in Futsal matches, and you need to be more precise with player positioning in matches without goalkeepers.
Even though EA Sports “built VOLTA FOOTBALL gameplay on top of the FIFA Gameplay engine” the rules are simple in VOLTA too, with there being “no substitutions, offsides, injuries, yellow or red cards, or even fatigue/stamina.” You can see all the details in the Pitch Notes.
Elsewhere, we now know more about the story, which will follow your created player as you create a team, recruit players, and try to be the best VOLTA team around. You can check out the trailer below.
As for the online modes, you can play in VOLTA League, which is like the Online Seasons of old, and you recruit high rated players to improve you team, and you need to take note of chemistry to get the best out of your squad. Chemistry is focused on:
- Placing players in their preferred positions in the team line-up
- Making sure that the players prefer the formation in which they are playing
You’ll also be able to unlock attributes from a skill tree for your custom player, and purchase clothing items from the VOLTA store. There will also be 17 different locations to play at, with each being different.
FIFA 20 releases on Sept. 27.
