The demo was shown to the Comic-Con audience in Hall H, but will not be released to the general public for now. We’ll have to wait for “a week after Gamescom,” which takes place from Aug. 20-24. Instead, the official Marvel’s Avengers Twitter account live-tweeted most of the gameplay and some additional information.

The multiple tweets go into detail about the Avengers’ abilities, such as Captain America’s shield bouncing between enemies and Iron Man’s Unibeam Blast attack, as the group fights off the villain Taskmaster on the Golden Gate Bridge.

The fight ends with the team’s Helicarrier exploding with Captain America on it and sinking into the San Francisco Bay. The event is deemed as “A-Day” and causes the Avengers to disband for five years, while all super heroes have been “outlawed” and a new threat has arrived.

Marvel’s Avengers creative director Shaun Escayg said it will be a story-driven game with single-player and co-op missions picked from a reclaimed Helicarrier, also allowing any hero to play any mission after the end of the campaign.

Escayg announced a full-color 12” statue of Captain America hand-painted by Gentle Giant Studios (you can see a prototype at the bottom of the post), and pre-order options for the collector’s edition will be revealed before the end of the year. Square Enix is also partnering with Sony to bring the game’s beta to PlayStation 4 first, alongside other unannounced benefits.

Marvel’s Avengers will be launching for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Stadia on May 15, 2020.
