How to Get Mending Books in Version 1.14

The quickest way to obtain a mending book is through a librarian. An easy way to find said librarian is by…making one. You are going to need a regular villager to begin with, and a lectern (which you can craft using 4 wooden slabs and a bookshelf).

Finding villagers is super simple; you just need to look around a bit until you come across a village. Once you enter the village you’ll see that it’s swarming with people to force a career onto.

As weird as this sounds, you now need to isolate the villager from their village for this to work. This is due to the fact that the other villagers will be in competition for this new title, and for some reason only one will emerge victorious.

You can isolate your chosen villager using rails and a minecart, or the faster alternative of quickly crafting a boat and getting one of them to stand in it, before transporting them away to a remote location.

Once the village is out of rendering distance, you know you’ve rowed far enough. Get them to land, and place the lectern in front of your captive villager until you see their wardrobe change to that of an oldtimey librarian (a little hat and glasses, of course).

When you have your librarian, you can click on them to see what stock they have to trade. Unfortunately you aren’t guaranteed to see the mending book first time, but not to worry.

You can keep placing and removing the lectern to re-assign the villager to librarian, which will randomise the stock until the mending book appears!
