Watch Dogs Switches Things Up
Even though Ubisoft’s crime/hacking/third-person shooter franchise has only seen two entries so far, the series has gone through at least one drastic change, which leaves us wondering where Ubisoft will go next with this one.
The first Watch Dogs was super gritty and took place in the cold and windy city of Chicago, and Watch Dogs 2 brought us to the bay area of San Francisco and was much more colorful and whimsical than its predecessor.
Now, Ubisoft has confirmed that a new Watch Dogs game is in development, titled as Watch Dogs Legion, but we still don’t know anything about it besides the fact that it seems to be taking place somewhere in the U.K.
There were rumors that the third Watch Dogs would bring players to London and put them in the shoes of a girl named Sarah. She would apparently use non-lethal weapons like batons and tasers (over guns and knives) and would also use parkour to get around the city.
Ubisoft taking Watch Dogs and bringing it to the UK would definitely be interesting to see, and also being in control of a female character who doesn’t “kill” her enemies.
Ubisoft does a fantastic job at recreating real-world locations as if they’ve done with the Assassin’s Creed series and past Watch Dogs games, so we’re sure that London would just look spectacular for the new entry.
We already know that Watch Dogs Legion will be revealed in some capacity during the presser, but let’s hope that we actually get a release date or something as well as some fresh gameplay showing where the series is headed next.
New Rayman
When the Rayman reboot burst onto the scene back in 2011 with Rayman Origins, we all loved how gorgeous the watercolor visuals were and just how much fun it was to play Rayman with friends.
Some would say it was a better multiplayer platformer than New Super Mario Bros. Only some, though.
Since then, we’ve gotten a proper sequel –Rayman Legends– and some mobile games, but that’s pretty much it. The series has been pretty quiet so it would be cool to see a new 2D title in the series or even a new 3D Rayman game, something like Rayman 4 for example.
Considering that there will be so many gritty and mature AAA games being announced and shown off at E3, how nice would it be to see Ubisoft bring out a charming and adorable trailer for a new Rayman game?
It would be such a nice change of pace, that’s for sure.
New Splinter Cell
It feels like the latest entry in the third-person stealth series, Splinter Cell: Blacklist only came out a few years ago, but it’s actually been six years since that game came out and now you probably feel very old.
While Blacklist was praised for its use of stealth, its multiplayer mode, and Sam Fisher’s narrative, the game managed to underperform according to Ubisoft, even after selling over two million copies.
The lack high sales is probably what caused the series to become stagnant in recent years, but I think it’s time to bring Mr. Fisher out of the shadows and announce a new Splinter Cell game at E3 2019, even if it’s slated for a next-gen launch.
Taking some time to cook in the oven would work wonders for the series, as Blacklist lost points in its reviews for having not-so-great visuals, lack of polish, and some frame rate issues.
Having the game come to a next-gen console will hopefully rectify those issues thanks to the upgraded hardware, but we’ll see. Ubisoft has been pretty quiet on the series as of late, but we would still love a good AAA stealth game this holiday season.
A Subscription Service
Imagine having to only pay a small fee per year to have access to Ubisoft’s extensive catalogue of video game franchises. I’m talking all of Assassin’s Creed; all of Splinter Cell; every track ever released in the Just Dance games.
Well, just this week there was a rumor that Ubisoft would be announcing a new subscription service similar to Game Pass or EA Access that allows subscribers to play whatever Ubisoft game they would like to check out.
Ubisoft has quite the collection of games on their shelf and being able to pay some cash to have instant access would be interesting to see, especially with the rise of subscription services as of late.
Roller Champions
Now we get into some shadowy territory. According to unconfirmed information that was leaked by a Reddit user, Roller Champions is a rumored roller derby multiplayer game that is in development and has an association with Ubisoft in some way.
Please take all of this with a grain of salt, but Roller Champions seems like just the type of game that only Ubisoft could keep under wraps (until now that is).
The game would have you customizing your character to then play matches with other people online. You would also have the option to choose between ranked and/or custom matches.
The “leak” stated that the game would be coming to Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and PC, with the trailer showing off a variety of racing tracks, like on a beach and another in an indoor arena.
As a fan of cartoony sports games like Rocket League, you can sign me up for Roller Champions ASAP.
