The game will retail for $9.99 and was released as Puyo Puyo eSports in Japan, making its way to North America and Europe this May.

The franchise is a series of puzzle games which typically involves matching colored blobs known as Puyo. In traditional gameplay, blobs are presented in sets of two and can be rotated left or right by the player with the goal of connecting four or more of the same color, causing them to disappear and the player to gain points.

In competitive play, the goal is to send garbage puyo to the opposing player through making chains where the blobs are cleared continuously.

The first entry to the series was developed by Compile and first released in 1991 for the MSX2 and Famicom.

Champions, or eSports, focuses on competitive online multiplayer primarily. Champions is most visually similar to Puyo Puyo Tetris but focuses on more traditional PuyoPuyo gameplay.

There are 24 characters to choose from throughout the series, and the latest entry features a local eight-player battle tournament mode. The trailer shows competitive multiplayer gameplay alongside upbeat music, and says: “Challenge your friends and family to fun, fast-paced puzzle action.”
