5 Creepiest Gaming Creepypastas
Sonic.EXE
Everybody knows Sonic – he’s that charismatic blue hedgehog who’s always around to save the day. You wouldn’t think he’d be a target of creepypastas (and no, we’re not talking about his movie), but here we are with Sonic.EXE. The tale starts off like any other, with a warning about how playing the game will lead to your death.
The story centers around a teenager named Tom who had gotten a mysterious package that contained a game from his friend. The sender had apparently been playing Sonic.EXE and urged his friend to destroy the disc before a mysterious entity came around to killing him.
Tom decided to boot up Sonic.EXE and try it out for himself, which obviously wasn’t the smartest idea. The game came with a slew of bizarre imagery, such as Sonic with pitch black eyes, dead animals littering the stages, Tails fleeing for his life, and some fourth-wall breaking. Needless to say, the story didn’t end well for Tails, Knuckles, and Tom, who were all hunted down by the blue blur.
You can catch up on the full creepypasta here, but what better way to experience the story than playing the game yourself? Fans of the story have made a full recreation of the entire Sonic.EXE game you can download here.

White Hand Sprite
The Pokemon series has seen its fair share of horror stories in the past, usually involving the eerie Lavander Town. There are some scary moments within the games themselves, such as the Old Chateau, the ghost girl in X and Y, and the Darkrai event. Heck, even the Bulbasaur Funko has a pair of soulless, eerie eyes.
One particular creepypasta that’s bound to send a chill up your spine is the White Hand Sprite. As the name implies, this “Pokemon” is a floating, white hand that appears on the third floor of the Pokemon Tower in Lavander Town.
The hand itself is decayed, showing peeled flesh and exposed bone. It’s honestly quite detailed considering the fact that it’s a sprite from Red/Blue. The worst part about the hand isn’t how it looks, but rather what it does in battle.
The first attack it does is ball up into a fist and swing at your Pokemon. Not too long after, the White Hand Sprite will use its “Brutal” attack in which it will open up and fade out before appearing on your screen again. The second attack is missing some frames and is said to be cursed if you watch it.

Pale Luna
Have you ever heard of Pale Luna? Chances are, you probably haven’t. Unlike the other two games, Pale Luna is a text adventure that isn’t a killer spin-off of another series.
This standalone adventure was discovered in the Bay Area way before the internet became as popular as it is today. The game starts off like this:
“-You are in a dark room. Moonlight shines through the window.
-There is GOLD in the corner, along with a SHOVEL and a ROPE.
-There is a DOOR to the EAST.
-Command?”
Which eventually led to a dead end within a game. No matter how many times players tried to finish the game, they couldn’t do it. It wasn’t until a man named Michael Nevins decided to crack the code and managed to finish the game. He was rewarded with coordinates that led him straight into a forest with a shocking surprise.
Pale Luna never made it out of San Francisco. All PCs that had the game installed have been destroyed and buried since then.

The Theater
The Theater is another old game that launched way back during the same era of the first DOOM game. Like most creepypasta games, you won’t be able to find an original copy of The Theater, and that’s probably a good thing.
When you boot up the game, you’ll be greeted inside the entrance of a movie theater with a man called the ticket-taker greeting you. There’s nothing strange about it whatsoever, except when you start going in a loop. Whenever you enter the theater, you’ll always wind up back to where you booted the game. The ticket-taker will always greet you and you have no choice but to head back inside the theater.
Moreover, players had reported some weird things happening during their loop. Some say that they managed to enter the theater, but only wound up walking in a completely pitch black area. Others had mentioned that the ticket-taker’s face would get distorted during multiple loops.
The worst occurrence has to be when the ticket-taker’s swirled face appears right in front of your screen, greeted by a high-pitched screech that would glitch the game. Nobody’s ever managed to make it inside the theater, and even the ticket-taker says “NEVER REACH THE OTHER LEVELS” at one point in the game.

MARIO
Rounding out our list, we have a creepypasta from none other than the Italian plumber himself, Mario. Even gaming’s famous mascot couldn’t escape getting his own horror story. This tale revolves around a Super Mario World hack called MARIO, which contains a text file with gibberish and the words “find me.”
The hack itself contains no enemies and has cryptic messages strewn around. As you continue to progress, the colors from the game will begin to fade. There’s a theory stating that Mario was actually sinking into depression, hence why all of these creepy things began happening in the hack.
The scariest thing about this creepypasta is that the text file is actually an accidental format change. If you convert it to .jpg, you’ll get a startling image you can check here (not for the faint-hearted). The hack is still live if you want to play it yourself.
