Screen Gems and Sony Pictures have announced their anticipated release date for the Monster Hunter film, yes, the film that’s based on Capcom’s action-RPG series with the same name.
Milla Jovovich will be starring in the film and it’s no surprise, as the writer/director of this film adaptation of the popular video game franchise is none other than Paul W.S. Anderson, the same man who directed most of the Resident Evil films that also starred Jovovich.
We don’t know whether or not to be excited for this project, especially after seeing photos from the set that – to be quite honest – looks nothing like the monster-hunting video game.
It does make sense when you read the synopsis of the film, which of course, has a lot to do with the military, guns, and soldiers, three things that we all just absolutely adore about the video game franchise (not):
“Behind our world, there is another — a world of dangerous and powerful monsters that rule their domain with deadly ferocity. When Lt. Artemis (Jovovich) and her loyal soldiers are transported from our world to the new world, the unflappable lieutenant receives the shock of her life.
In her desperate battle for survival against enormous enemies with incredible powers and unstoppable, terrifying attacks, Artemis will team up with a mysterious man (Tony Jaa) who has found a way to fight back.”
But, being a huge fan of Monster Hunter himself, Paul W.S. Anderson considers this film to be a passion project for him and he promises that there indeed will be some incredible monsters and imagery inspired by the earlier Monster Hunter titles, so at least we have something cool to look forward to.
Monster Hunter is due for release in cinemas on Sep 4, 2020.
