Apex Legends: How to Get & Equip New Skins

How to Get & Equip New Skins in Apex Legends

Recommended Videos

Apex Legends is the latest battle royale game to enter the fray courtesy of Respawn Entertainment. The unique attraction here is that each player assumes the role of a different ‘Legend’ with unique abilities. While the weapons you’ll pick up are always the same types, you can stand out from the crowd. Here’s how to get and equip new skins in Apex Legends.

First off, it’s worth noting that Apex Legends has skins for both weapons and the characters, known as ‘Legends.’ In this post, we’ll break down how to get and equip new skins for both.

How to Get New Weapon Skins in Apex Legends

In order to see all the different skins available for a weapon in Apex Legends, you’ll need to first head to the Armory tab by pressing the RB / R1 button from the Lobby screen. From here, select the weapon that you want to view the skins of and press A / X.

You’ll now see the screen below, showing all of the names of the different skins in different colors. The colors are the rarity of the skin, and this determines how much a weapon skin costs to craft.

We’ve broken down the costs of skins in Apex Legends by rarity (we’ve also listed the color), in the table below.

Rarity (Color)  Cost (Crafting Metals)
Legendary (Gold) 1200
Epic (Purple) 400
Rare (Blue) 60
Common (White) 30

Of course, in order to craft these skins in Apex Legends, you’ll need to get Crafting Metals. So far, the only way to get these is as a reward from Apex Packs which can either be purchased with Apex Coins (microtransaction currency), or earned by leveling up.

Even then, we only got 15 Crafting Metals from one box, so as it stands, it’ll take a while to earn enough for a Legendary skin. We’ll update this guide as and when there are more ways to earn Crafting Metals, but for now, let’s move on.

Alternatively, it is possible to get skins in Apex Legends as part of Apex Packs, or from The Rotating Shop. Apex Packs are earned by leveling up currently, while The Rotating Shop requires Apex Coins to purchase new skins.

How to Get Legend Skins in Apex Legends

The principle is very much the same as it is for getting weapon skins in the game. Simply put, you’ll want to head to the Legends tab, rather than the Armory, select the character you want to view or craft a skin for, and then press A/ X on them.

The prices for crafting Legend skins are exactly the same as they are for weapon skins, so it’s still going to take some time. It is again possible to get Legend Skins from Apex Packs, as we nabbed a nice Rare skin for Gibraltar this way.

EA has announced there will be a Season 1 Battle Pass on the way for Apex Legends, but this has yet to become available as far as we can tell. We’ll update this post when more information is available.

How to Equip New Skins

As the process is largely the same for equipping skins in Apex Legends once you’ve got one for either a weapon or a Legend, we’ll just give you a rundown on the process for both below.

If it’s a Legend skin you want to equip, head to the Legends tab and select the character. While, if you unlocked a weapon skin in Apex Legends, you’re going to the Armory and selecting the weapon. Any weapon or character with new customization options will have a red circle next to their name.

From here, simply scroll down until you find the skin and press A on Xbox One or X on PS4 to display it on the character/weapon model. To equip it, press X on Xbox One or Square on PS4.

TL;DR

Question: How do you get and equip skins in Apex Legends?

Answer: You can get new skins in Apex Legends by crafting them with Crafting Metals, purchasing them from The Rotating Shop, or as part of an Apex Pack. To equip weapon skins, head to the Armory, select the desired weapon, and press A/X on the skin. The same process can be used for equipping Legend skins, but head to the Legends tab rather than the Armory.
