The Choices at the Beginning Affect Your Base Stats and Abilities

Just like the first Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts 3 has you make a series of choices at the very beginning of the game. It’ll present you with three mirrors to choose from twice in a row, but it doesn’t tell you what exactly these choices will mean.

Your first choice will make you choose between Vitality, Wisdom, and Balance. These affect your starting stats, i.e. Vitality will give you more HP, Wisdom will give you more MP, and Balance will give you equal but slightly less of the two. Whichever you choose will also affect your level ups, and which stats get focused on more.

The second choice asks you to choose between Warrior, Mystic, and Guardian. This time around, your choice will affect which abilities you learn first, up through to level 20. Warrior will focus on offensive and combo enhancing abilities first, Mystic will focus on magic and MP enhancing abilities, and Guardian will focus on recovery and damage control abilities.

Make your choice wisely at the beginning of Kingdom Hearts 3 based on what kind of build you want, as you can’t go back and change it later.

Magic Changes With Your Keyblade Form

Keyblade Formchanges are the biggest addition to Kingdom Hearts 3’s combat system, allowing you to transform Sora’s Keyblades into entirely new weapons like a massive hammer or dual arrow guns.

They allow for huge variation on combat, especially since you can equip three at a time, but what isn’t immediately obvious is that these Formchanges can also affect your magic.

Depending on the weapon, the nature of magic can change. For example, if you have the dual arrow guns with the Star Seeker Keyblade using a spell like Fire or Thunder will now shoot out four projectiles that track enemies.

Meanwhile, if you use the Hyper Hammer with the Favorite Deputy Keyblade, Fire and Thunder will now spin around Sora in a more defensive, close-range way.

This helps provide even more incentive to try out each Keyblade and see which ones you want to combine.

Don’t Worry About Those Mickey Emblems Yet

While you’re exploring the world of Olympus, you’ll start to see Mickey Emblems pop up in the world and etched on walls. These are known as Lucky Emblems, and you might have even heard news about them before the game’s release as they’re how you’ll unlock the Secret Ending.

However, you won’t be able to do anything with Lucky Emblems until you follow the story and reach Twilight Town. When you first reach Twilight Town, you’ll learn how to use your Gummiphone to take pictures, which is when you can start collecting Lucky Emblems.

So for the first part of the game in Olympus, you’ll want to make a note of the location of each Emblem you find, so you can go back and mop them up later.

You Can Buy Ingredients Later On

Kingdom Hearts 3 takes a cue from Final Fantasy XV by letting Sora cook up delicious meals that the party can eat for a variety of stat boosts. In order to do this, however, you’ll need lots of ingredients you can take back to the Little Chef in Twilight Town.

There’s a ton of ingredients to gather, and the primary way of getting all these is simply by finding them out in the world. What Kingdom Hearts 3 doesn’t tell you, however, is that any ingredients you’ve already found you’ll then be able to buy for just a few Munny.

Around the time you get to Twilight Town, go into the Moogle Shop and tab all the way over to the Materials section. You’ll see a ton of different ingredients you can buy for around 40-60 Munny each, and more will get added as you discover them in the game’s worlds.

This is a much easier way to get what you need to cook food, rather than running back through the world to track them down.

You Should Put Equipment on Your Temporary Party Members

Equipment is an important aspect of your party build, as you’ll want to use it to make Sora, Donald, and Goofy even stronger. What you might not think about, however, and what the game doesn’t tell you, is that every guest party member has quite a few equipment slots open as well.

Whenever you start up a new world, make sure to open the main menu and select Equipment, then put a few things on your guest members. This can be a good way to bump up the defense or damage of Disney characters, helping your party deal with tough enemies, especially if you’re under-leveled.

Of course, some pieces of Armor give you better elemental defense, so this is something you’ll want to keep in mind based on which particular world you’re in. For example, when Marshmellow joins your party in Arendelle, you might want to bump up his ice defense. The same goes for Sora, Donald, and Goofy as well.
