Today, during the airing of the anime special titled “Dark Sun” in Japan, Atlus teased Persona 5 R or P5R, if you will.
The game has been teased for PlayStation consoles via a PlayStation logo at the beginning of the trailer which you can see below, but no platforms were announced officially. We only see a mention of “March 2019” for another reveal.
You can watch the teaser trailer below alongside another for the “Persona Super Live P-Sound Street 2019: Welcome to the Q-Theater” concert that will be hosted on April 24 and April 25 at the Ryougoku Kokugikan in Tokyo. We also get the key visual for the concert.
Interestingly, it appears that the reveal of Persona 5 R will happen before the concert. In March 2019 Aniplex will air another anime special titled “Stars and Ours” that will likely conclude the story following “Dark Sun” and will probably include the reveal of the game in a similar format as today.
It’s worth mentioning that the PlayStation logo doesn’t necessarily mean that the game will be a PS4 exclusive. We’ll have to wait and see on that front.
Also of note is that the teaser mentions “New Projects” so there might be more than one game left to be revealed.
If you’re unfamiliar with Persona 5, it’s a massively popular JRPG which was released in Japan for PS4 and PS3 after a chain of delays on Sept. 15, 2016. Western fans had to wait until April 4, 2017, to get their hands on the localization.
It has since generated two spinoffs, Persona 5: Dancing in the Starlight and Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth.
Persona 5 protagonist Joker will also make an appearance in Nintendo’s critically acclaimed Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and even in Atlus’ own Catherine: Full Body.
If you don’t care for waiting, the original game is currently available for PS4 and PS3. To know why it’s so good, you can read our review.
