How to Unlock Cloud in Super Smash Bros Ultimate

Super Smash Bros Ultimate is the latest entry in Nintendo’s popular fighting party game series, and it also happens to feature the largest character roster we’ve seen so far. This entry brings back every single character we’ve seen in previous Smash games, and that includes Cloud. With that in mind, here’s how to unlock Cloud in Super Smash Bros Ultimate.

Here are the three ways you can get Cloud in the game, and we’ll go into detail for each method in a bit:

  • Find him in World of Light
  • Play through Classic Mode with specific characters
  • Unlock him naturally by playing various game modes and waiting for new challengers

Playing through World of Light

World of Light in the main story campaign of Super Smash Bros Ultimate, and you’ll be able to unlock every single character in the game from here. However, this isn’t the most efficient method, and will likely take you quite a bit more time.

If you’re hoping to unlock Cloud through World of Light, though, here’s what you need to know. Go through the map and get to the Sacred Land area by choosing the Zelda fighter path. Once you choose Zelda, the other paths will be locked. Keep progressing through the map and you’ll eventually find Cloud as one of the fighters you can awaken from here.

Playing through Classic Mode

If you really want to get Cloud as soon as possible, we recommend playing Classic Mode in Super Smash Bros Ultimate.

First off, you’ll need to beat Classic Mode with Samus in order to unlock Dark Samus. After that, beat Classic Mode with Dark Samus to get Cloud to appear as a challenger. Beat Cloud, and he’ll be permanently unlocked in your character roster.

The tricky thing to note here is that beating Classic Mode with Samus may not cause Dark Samus to show up right away. In our playthrough, we had to go through Classic Mode with Samus about two or three times before Dark Samus appeared.

Playing Other Modes

After playing a few matches in World of Light, Classic Mode, or even VS battles in Smash Bros Ultimate, a new challenger will show up. These characters appear in a set order, and you can unlock Cloud this way as well.

However, it’s worth noting that Cloud is one of the last few characters to show up in this lineup, and you’ll need to go through about 50 other challengers before you actually get to him. So, if you’re looking to get Cloud as soon as possible, we recommend getting him through Classic Mode.

The fight with Cloud in Smash Bros Ultimate is pretty tough as well. It’ll take place on the Midgar stage, and Cloud will always go for the materia item when it shows up. This allows him to be invulnerable to the summons, and can cause quite a lot of grief for you.

During the fight, we recommend picking a slightly speedier character like one of the Fire Emblem fighters (not Ike, though) or Link and Zero Suit Samus so you can keep up with Cloud. When the materia shows up, make sure to grab it before he does, and it’ll alleviate a lot of the pressure on you during the fight.

That’s all you need to know about how to unlock Cloud in Super Smash Bros Ultimate. Be sure to check our Smash Bros Ultimate guide wiki for more tips and information on the game.

TLDR;

Question: How do you unlock Cloud in Super Smash Bros Ultimate?

Answer: You can get Cloud through World of Light, Classic Mode, or just playing the game naturally. We recommend getting him through the Classic Mode method by clearing the gauntlet of fights with Samus and Dark Samus.
