If there is one kind of food that Japanese people love no matter the season or the occasion, it’s fried chicken. They love it so much, that they mix it with everything, including Final Fantasy XIV.
I’m not even joking. The Japanese love affair with fried chicken (the most popular variety of which is named karaage) is so strong that with a clever marketing ploy Kentucky Fried Chicken managed to turn its own product into a “traditional” Christmas dish that you have to pre-order days in advance, lest you remain high and dry for the Holidays.
Yet, I am digressing. Popular convenience store chain Lawson is launching its very own Final Fantasy XIV version of its Karaage-Kun brand of fried chicken.
According to the press release, the new flavor of karaage will launch on Jan. 22 and will be available at all Lawson stores excluding those of the “Natural” sub-brand. Karaage isn’t exactly fitting that kind of brand popular among veggie lovers, I guess.
We also learn that the creation of the flavor has been supervised by the Final Fantasy XIV development and management team. Basically, it’s likely to be Yoshi-P’s favorite chicken.
The packaging is also particularly cute, with a Moogle alongside Karaage-Kun’s traditional chicken mascot. You can check it out in the gallery below.
I know what’s the first thing I’ll eat the next time I’m in Tokyo.
Final Fantasy XIV is currently available for PS4 and PC. If you’re interested in the game you can read the first info about the next expansion coming next summer.
