Stardew Valley, the ever-popular farming game, is getting a multiplayer update on the Nintendo Switch soon. The long-awaited update is finished and now in QA, according to creator Eric Barone. No word on when it might go live, but good news for Switch players nonetheless.
Multiplayer has been available on the PC version of Stardew Valley for several months now. In this co-op mode, up to four farming friends can hook up and work on a farm together. This can be done by creating a new farm, essentially starting a new game, or building a cabin for friends in an existing game.
In addition to sharing the workload, players also share income. This means that people playing co-op together must be careful and coordinate purchases. Or they can buy at their leisure and watch other players freak out.
Sharing everything means sharing lives, too. Stardew Valley players can get married to each other with the new update! This means they can also get divorced, so farm life is about to get messy. I’m here for the down-home drama.
Concrete details for the Switch version of Stardew Valley are yet to come, but there’s no reason to think the co-op will be any different than the PC version. The biggest question to be answered is probably whether the LAN mode is still intact. The Switch version is still scheduled to get the update before the PS4 or Xbox One versions.
