After Telltale Games’ closure this past weekend, Netflix told Polygon that they will still be moving forward with a Stranger Things video game in some type of “interactive medium.” Telltale Games was known for popularizing the adventure game genre in the modern age with titles such as Telltales The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us, and Minecraft: Story Mode. Telltale took familiar properties and turned them on their head with point-and-click gameplay and a narrative full of game-changing decisions.
After the terrible news of the studio’s shutdown, the company announced that not only would the final season of The Walking Dead be canceled after only two episodes, but all other current and future projects would be canned. But in a statement by Netflix via Polygon, a skeleton crew over at Telltale will continue working on Minecraft: Story Mode for Netflix and a Stranger Things-inspired project will move forward as well:
“We are saddened by the news about Telltale Games, they developed many great games in the past and left an indelible mark on the industry. Minecraft: Story Mode is still moving forward as planned. We are in the process of evaluating other options for bringing the Stranger Things universe to life in an interactive medium.”
Like everyone else, we found the news about Telltale’s demise to be extremely depressing, especially since they were in the middle of putting out the last season of their most popular series, The Walking Dead. Maybe one day we’ll get to see the end of Clementine’s story, but for now, it seems like we never will.
