Spider-Man PS4 Story & Ending Summary
Act 1
Spider-Man PS4 kicks things off pretty quickly in Act 1. While, for the most part, it’s about getting to know Spider-Man, the man behind the mask, Peter Parker, and the other supporting characters along the way. Peter Parker is a 20-something who’s been struggling to make ends meet for a while now. He works at Octavius Laboratories, working for Otto Octavius. He juggles this job that grants him the experience he wants to break into the scientific field, and his role as Spider-Man, saving the city from crime.
Fortunately, Spider-Man has some friends within NYPD, and Captain Yuri Watanabe is one of them. It doesn’t take long before she’s letting Spider-Man know that Kingpin (Wilson Fisk) is causing some commotion out on the streets and it’s finally time to put him behind bars. It’s revealed that Kingpin has a lot of influence in New York as… well… the Kingpin of New York’s criminal underbelly. He’s had some cops in his pocket to turn a blind eye, and it’s finally time to put it to an end. Spidey, of course, manages to save the day and put Kingpin behind bars, but not before Fisk lets Spider-Man know that he’ll miss him in a month when everyone else is trying to take his throne.
A few days pass, and Peter is busy working at Octavius Laboratories. Otto is working hard on some prosthetic arms that can be neurally connected to his brain and enable him to control them mentally. However, it turns out that Norman Osmond and Otto has a bit of a bust-up, and eventually parted ways. Osmond had been funding Otto’s lab space, but shows up to check out what’s going on… and break the news that he’s pulling all funding due to a clause within the contract that they signed.
Taking a break from the action, Peter also decides to go and spend some time seeing his Aunt May, who works for Martin Li, a philanthropist who’s also been working hard at the FEAST homeless shelter.
Of course, the calm can’t last for long, and so it turns out that Shocker has somehow broken out of the large RAFT prison, and is going around causing all kinds of electricity-related chaos. After Spidey chases after him and takes him down, it’s revealed that he’s been working for somebody, and somebody that really terrifies him, too. Someone who was able to influence the guards at the RAFT to just let Shocker free.
Flicking to another of the supporting characters is Mary Jane, commonly referred to as MJ in the game. She’s an investigative reporter and Peter’s ex-girlfriend, but the two get on all the same and she’s already aware that he is Spider-Man. Together, the two of them stumble upon some old mask that appears to be a Japanese artifact of some sort. They discuss it over a coffee, before Peter realizes Martin Li, an art historian, might be able to assist with his expert knowledge.
Heading over to FEAST, Peter brings the mask to Martin Li to check it out. Unfortunately, Martin Li doesn’t really shed a whole ton of light on this mysterious mask for us, aside from warning Peter to tell MJ to stay out of it, and that it “scares the crap out of him.”
Eventually, MJ does some sleuthing skills and manages to locate a warehouse that they believe those that wear these masks are working out of. Spider-Man heads out there and is paired up with a bad-ass cop named Jefferson Davis. After sleuthing around and finding some hidden documents which clear up a little bit about what these “Demons” want, the two end up in a car chase against the “Demons.”
Sadly, Jefferson Davis, not being a superhero and all, is seriously injured in the process and MJ writes a story on him in the Daily Bugle, revering him as a hero for his work assisting Spider-Man taking down the Demons. It’s revealed that Jefferson will receive a presentation in his honor at City Hall. Oh, we also find out that he’s Miles Morales’ father!
Things move along a bit, and eventually it’ll come time for the presentation at City Hall. While Norman Osmond is presenting the award to Jefferson Davis, he receives a call, and is told that whoever’s on the other end of the line wants to make him suffer and take everything from him. Before long, Demons appear in the crowd and begin setting off bombs, killing Jefferson Davis in the process, while Norman Osborn is able to get away safely.
Spider-Man PS4 Story & Ending Summary
Act 2
During all the commotion at City Hall, Spidey did manage to spot one thing. Mr Negative, the guy responsible for all the Demons, is actually Martin Li. Feeling sorry for Miles, who just lost his father, Peter offers Miles a job at the homeless shelter. Where Martin Li has suspiciously gone on vacation from for a while.
Following the terrorist attacks at City Hall, Osborn calls in the help of Sable, a counter-terrorist group run by Silver Sable that are seriously well-equipped. Their presence around the city is certainly noticeable, and they’re intent on taking down Fisk’s men and the Demon’s in one fell swoop.
With Sable now on the scene, MJ and Peter continue working together to figure out exactly why Martin Li has a vendetta against Norman Osborn so badly. They agree it’s best to try and track him down and stop him before he succeeds in his plans.
Before he can do that, though, Peter goes to check in at his actual job at Octavius Industries to try and help Otto out with their prosthetic arms project again. They’ve improved considerably, but still have some niggling issues in, and can cause some mental instability, too. During Peter’s work at the lab, however, Otto does confide in him a bit and explains exactly why this work is so important to him. Otto has a degenerative disorder which will soon cripple his body, and so he’s intent on succeeding in order to improve his own life, as well as bringing a life-changing product to the world.
Having finished his work at the lab, Peter makes his way over to FEAST as Spidey, but spots Miles getting jumped by thugs. Spidey jumps in to help him, meets him, and the two share a special moment bonding. Spider-Man teaches Miles what he needs to know to punch and take on guys bigger and stronger than him, before disappearing off.
While all of this has been going on, MJ has been hard at work as she’d noticed that notorious drug dealer Tombstone has shown his face in town again after a while. She discovers that there’s something called Devil’s Breath that he’s involved in, and that’s why he’s back in town.
MJ and Spidey decide to team up once again here to put the pieces of the puzzle together. It turns out that Devil’s Breath is a chemical weapon that Mister Negative wants to use, but its origins are unknown.
Of course, then, Martin Li manages to somehow get his hands on Devil’s Breath itself, and concocts a time bomb that’s placed in the subway. Our favorite duo of Spidey and MJ manage to save the day just in time, defusing the bomb, and locking Mister Negative up behind bars on the RAFT with the rest of the criminals.
Now that Mister Negative is safely locked away, Peter returns to Octavius labs again, but sadly, Otto seems to have gone off the deep end a bit. The neural interface that he’s introduced the prosthetic arms system has clearly caused his mental state to destabilize, and Peter warns him that his mind can be permanently damaged if he continues to push this.
Otto momentarily acknowledges that the tech isn’t perfect, but then sees Norman Osborn on the news and goes into a fit of rage. He reconnects the neural interface, before staring down the lens of the camera right at us like a crazy person.
Shortly after, Yuri Watanabe is on the phone to Spider-Man, letting him know of some incredibly bizarre goings-on at RAFT. Apparently, a ton of prisoners have managed to escape and are running riot in the streets. Spidey goes over to investigate and manages to quell the criminal threat a little, but then things take a turn for the worst.
Vulture, Scorpion, Rhino, Electro, Mister Negative, and of course, Doc Ock all come together to give Spider-Man a good seeing to on a building roof. He has to be taken to hospital and treated, and honestly, we’re still unsure of how he got better without revealing his identity. Anyhow, that’s how Spider-Man’s Act 2 wraps up!
Spider-Man PS4 Story & Ending Summary
Act 3
At the beginning of Act 3, Manhattan is beginning to come down with some sort of illness thanks to Devil’s Breath being released upon them. With Spider-Man all rested and recovered, he decides it’s time to immediately get to work. First, Doc Ock had commanded Rhino and Scorpion to go and cause some problems over at a shipping yard, while Vulture and Electro are busy patrolling a factory.
As the player, you’re actually free to decide which duo you want to go and take care of first. Going after Rhino and Scorpion will cause Spider-Man to land in on the two while they’re arguing with each other about how things should be done. After kicking their asses, you’ll also get a quick insight into Miles’ run-in with the duo, as he was raiding a Sable outpost in the hope he could get medical supplies to keep the homeless shelter going (which has now been turned into a refuge center for just about anyone who’s sick). Aunt May, sadly, seems to be coughing and spluttering, suffering with an illness at this point, too.
With both of the duos taken care of, Spider-Man sets his sights for Mister Negative who’s heading right for Osborn at his penthouse apartment. But MJ is already there, intent on looking for clues to explain a little bit more about Devil’s Breath and exactly what it is. Problem is, Sable are there, too.
After some scouring around, it turns out that Devil’s Breath was initially a super cure to most diseases that went awry. Upon finding a hidden room in the penthouse, MJ discovers that Martin Li was a test subject for Devil’s Breath when he was a child in the hope that it could cure his negative energy, but sadly, his parents died in an accident during the experiment, and ever since Martin Li has sought revenge against Osborn. MJ spots Otto is actually there, too, working on Devil’s Breath with Norman.
And what’s more, a scientist at Oscorp has Devil’s Breath on him at all times in order to keep it safe and out of the hands of the wrong people. We also find out in the penthouse here that Norman’s son, Harry Osmond, one of Peter Parker’s best friends, isn’t actually on a trip around Europe, but that was simply a cover-up for him to be the next trial subject for Devil’s Breath, in the hope it could cure him of an illness that could kill him.
MJ turns around suddenly after hearing Silver Sable lurking outside, and smashes a container with a black and red Spider inside it. Eventually Silver Sable walks into the hidden room that MJ discovered all of the Devil’s Breath information about. She scans the room, as the aforementioned spider rests on MJ’s neck as she tries not to scream. After Silver leaves the room, MJ brushes it off and makes her escape, leaping off the building in the hope that Spidey catches her, and he does.
With all of this knowledge behind them, MJ and Peter talk about how Harry is actually sick and not in Europe, and discuss the revelation that Otto had worked on Devil’s Breath with Norman before leaving to work on his own research. It’s just a shame that Otto’s gone insane now. Spider-Man blames his self-centered nature, and MJ reassures him that he’s not alone. He has MJ and Miles to help him, and she says her and Miles will take care of FEAST and those who are suffering from Devil’s Breath.
And so off Spider-Man goes to find Normal, but unfortunately finds Mister Negative has beaten him to it. It’s time for round two with Mister Negative for Spidey, and this time he beats him once and for all, defeating the enormous negative energy monster that bursts out of Mister Negative.
With Mister Negative down, Spidey heads over to save Osborn and get him to safety. But right on cue, Doc Ock bursts through the ceiling. He grabs Spidey, crushing him and damaging his suit in the process. Before he bails out, he steals the Devil’s Breath cure (which Norman has managed to manufacture and reveals) and Norman, leaving Spidey on his own.
At this point, Devil’s Breath has begun ravaging the city, and Aunt May’s state continues to decline. Peter knows he doesn’t have much time yet, and needs to fix his suit up before he can take on Doc Oc again.
Sadly, after the last time, Spider-Man’s aware that he needs to make some changes to his Spider suit, and with the help of the research and materials at Octavius labs, creates a powerful new black and yellow suit (CUE THE WIZ KHALIFA SONG!).
Just as soon as he’s done with it, however, Doc Ock bursts in. It turns out that Otto knew this whole time that it was Peter who is Spider-Man and he wasn’t just helping him out. After trying to argue his reasoning for wanting to take down Norman, the two end up locking horns in one final, epic fight.
