Dragon Quest XI isn’t going to be some nice and easy walk in the park to save the world and uncover the mysterious fate of its protagonist. I mean, what kind of epic RPG adventure would it be if it was all that simple? Your weapons are going to be an incredibly important thing to take into account when sorting your party out in Dragon Quest XI, and as you progress through the game, you’re likely going to find you’ll need to upgrade weapons.

Upgrading weapons in Dragon Quest XI can up your effectiveness in battle, but it’s not the simplest thing to do if you’re unsure of how the process works. That’s why we’re here, so here’s what you need to know to upgrade weapons in Dragon Quest XI.

To upgrade weapons, you’ll want to make use of the Fun Size Forge to improve any weapons or armor that you pick up along your adventure. It’s worth noting that you can also craft entirely new items with the Fun Size Forge, should this be a better option for you to take over upgrading.

Every weapon and piece of armor in Dragon Quest XI can be improved to a +3, but you’ll need Perfectionist’s Pearls to try and reforge the item to a higher quality. To actually upgrade a weapon or piece of armor with the Fun Size Forge, you’ll want to select the Rework Item option, and then the item you want to upgrade. This will then take you into a forging minigame to rework it, so simply complete this and you’ll be all set.

Perfectionist’s Pearls are actually earned by crafting a new item at the mini forge in Dragon Quest XI. However, you can also purchase them from L’Academie de Notre with gold.

That’s all you need to do to upgrade weapons in Dragon Quest XI. For more tips, tricks, and information on the game, be sure to check out our ever-expanding wiki.
