Having only showcased the alpha-footage of its upcoming game Cyberpunk 2077 to media at E3 and Gamescom 2018, the public has been itching to see the demo for themselves following rave reviews. Early yesterday, CD Projekt Red’s Twitch channel began broadcasting a cryptic data transmission stream, which continued for several hours. Rumors quickly spread that a gameplay reveal was inbound, and sure enough, at 6 pm EST, Cyberpunk 2077 was unveiled to the public. The internet lost their minds, as you might imagine, but the real takeaway was just how many concurrent viewers turned up for the reveal.

GitHyp notes that “Cyberpunk’s reveal wasn’t just the most watched game on Twitch yesterday topping Fortnite’s peak of 305k viewers… it was also the most watched stream for a newly released or upcoming game this year, doubling the peaks of new games such as God of War (283k), Sea of Thieves (259k), and Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s (204k) first look.”
