How to Open Red Doors in Dragon Quest XI

Recommended Videos

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age brings the prolific series back after almost a decade off from mainline titles. The latest entry in the franchise provides a gorgeous visual update, and plenty of exploring to do in the world of Erdrea. Outside of the lengthy main story, there’s plenty of sidequests to do and treasure to find. If you’re a treasure hunter, in particular, you’ll no doubt have noticed the red doors scattered across the world in towns and fields. Of course, if you’ve gone up to them you’ll also find they’re locked with no apparent way in. It can take a while to figure out how to open the red doors, so we’ll help you out.

Unfortunately, there’s simply no way to open the red doors until you’ve progressed the story to a certain point. During your search for the six orbs, you’ll leave Nautica and go to an area called Champs Sauvage. In the south of that area there’s a town called Phnom Nonh. You’ll need to head there, complete the story section, and beat the boss named Dora-in-Grey, which will reward you with the magic key. Once you have that key in your possession, you’re free to open any and all red doors you can find in Dragon Quest XI, so head back out into the world and grab all that treasure you missed.

There are also other locked silver doors to open that we can help with, but you won’t be able to do that until much later in the game.
