Doom Eternal Switch Version Targeting 30fps, Missing 60fps Is “No Sacrifice to the Experience”

Doom Eternal

Developer Panic Button shocked the gaming industry when it was able to release Doom 2016 on the Nintendo Switch with only a few sacrifices. Surprisingly, the developers are aiming to replicate the same with Doom Eternal.

id Software’s Marty Stratton confirmed to Eurogamer that Panic Button is targeting to hit 30 frames per second for Doom Eternal and hopes to launch it at the same time as the PC, PS4, and Xbox One versions. According to Stratton, they consider the Switch version as a “first class citizen” this time around because they are developing the game with the hybrid platform in mind.

Similar to Doom 2016, the team is targeting to hit 30 frames per second for the Switch version of the sequel. “We don’t run at 60 on Switch” said Stratton. “Doom 2016 didn’t run at 60 on Switch, it ran at 30, and really it was no sacrifice to the experience.”

Compared to Doom 2016, the upcoming game is much bigger game in terms of scope and verticality. This makes the 30 frames per second performance target for the Switch version commendable in itself, especially considering that players will likely get to experience the exact version as its console siblings with only a few sacrifices. However, it still remains to be confirmed whether the Switch version of Doom Eternal will also receive the multiplayer modes and the cool invasion system.

Doom Eternal has no release date yet, but Stratton assures fans that development is going smooth. “Not getting into the release date yet, but we’re doing well – the game is really coming along.” Regardless, we can expect to see the game in the near future on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
