How to Level Up Fast in Octopath Traveler
Octopath Traveler is a classic, turn-based JRPG developed by Square Enix and Acquire for the Nintendo Switch. Naturally, this means that your characters will be gaining experience points and leveling up whenever they get enough combat experience. Every chapter in the game has a level recommendation too, and if you’re having trouble with a boss, or if you need to level up a little more before you feel confident in taking on the challenge, here’s how to level up fast in Octopath Traveler.
Here are the best ways to level up fast in Octopath Traveler:
- Equip EXP and JP boosting accessories
- Use the Bewildering Grace method
- Go to the Maw of the Ice Dragon dungeon for the high Cait spawn rates
First off, it should be noted that the game is paced fairly well if you make it a point to play with all your different characters. As long as you’re not neglecting your non-active characters, and you make sure to use all of them regularly, only your protagonist will be over-leveled, and the other seven should be pretty even. This means that there’s rarely ever any need to grind. And if you’re having trouble with a boss, it might be better to look at what classes you need instead of straight grinding.
Anyway, there are a couple of things you can do to speed up the process. The best way to keep everyone leveled is by running through a story dungeon twice once you hit chapter two. Go through it once with your A-Team, then make another quick run through it with your B-Team. This shouldn’t take too long once you know the layout, and it’ll give everyone an even distribution. You can also increase the amount of experience you get by using Primrose’s Bewildering Grace. This move will create random effects on the battlefield, and has the potential to give you 10 or even 100 times the experience and Job Points. There’s a lot of RNG involved, of course, but the experience boosts are very hefty.
If you encounter any Caits in regular battles, you’ll also want to pelt them with magic spells. They can offer you incredible buffs in battle if you capture them with H’aanit, but if you’re just looking for experience, nuke them to death. From our experience, we found that we had pretty good chances of encountering Chubby Caits in the Maw of the Ice Dragon optional cave, located in the Stillsnow Wilds.
Late in the game, you can also complete a side quest for a rich old man in Marsalim, and he’ll reward you with the Alluring Ribbon. Equipping this on a character will increase your encounter rate, making your grinding process go a little faster.
As a general rule of thumb, try to grind in areas that are equal to your characters’ levels. So if your characters are around level 28-30, go to a level 30 area.
Once you’ve completed the main story and are looking to gear up for the tough post-game superboss and the advanced shrine bosses, the highest leveling spot we’ve found in the game is at the Forest of Purgation. This is a level 58 dungeon that can be found near Wispermill in the Flatlands.
