After Fornite debuted on Nintendo Switch, Sony took a rather rigid stance when it came to cross-play on the system. As a result, many folks who had previously played Fortnite with a PlayStation 4 account or on other systems were locked out when trying to play on the Switch. As such, Sony has been under fire for some time now regarding this policy. However, it looks like the company could be thinking about changing its mind in response to the backlash from the various players all over the world who have felt frustrated by the decision.
Sony Interactive America president and CEO Shawn Layden responded to the frustration from fans during a Gamelab conference in Spain. Eurogamer asked Layden about the policy and whether the company would potentially be open to change in the future.
“We’re hearing it,” Layden said. “We’re looking at a lot of the possibilities. You can imagine that the circumstances around that affect a lot more than just one game. I’m confident we’ll get to a solution which will be understood and accepted by our gaming community, while at the same time supporting our business.”
That’s not exactly a yes, but it’s certainly better than Sony’s initial response, so hopefully that means we’re onto something.
