Dead Eye Seems Mostly Unchanged in Red Dead Redemption 2

Following yesterday’s new trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2, IGN has published an extensive preview of the game, based on a 45-minute gameplay demo. In it, writer Alex Simmons details how Dead Eye will work in the game, and it seems it will function in largely the same way as it did previously.

The piece describes a bank robbery gone wrong, culminating in a sequence where the protagonist Arthur Morgan kicks down a door and automatically enters Dead Eye mode. Just as before, the screen turns sepia and time slows down. The player can then mark several targets before shooting. There is a time limit on how long the player can spend marking the enemies, before Arthur guns them down in a hail of gunfire. Dead Eye isn’t the only time the game will enter slow motion. In the piece, it is revealed that long-ranged kills also trigger a slow down, with a reverse angle given as each bullet hits its target.

In terms of Dead Eye, there doesn’t seem to be much to differentiate it from Red Dead Redemption, though I suppose if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Red Dead Redemption 2 is a prequel to the first game, which follows an outlaw named Arthur Morgan as he and his gang out-run lawmen and the end of the Wild West era. So far we’ve had three trailers for the game, but no gameplay. The latest, which released yesterday, offered a closer look at the game’s narrative, and offered a brief glimpse at John Marston, the protagonist from the last game. The game is set to launch October 26, 2018 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One .
