5 Best Overwatch League Player Performances From Stage 1 Week 5

Los Angeles Valiant got two wins this week, the most important being against Seoul Dynasty where they went 4-0 to beat the once number one placed team on the leaderboard.

The standout player during that crucial match was Fate on his signature character Winston, who, from the first map in Eichenwalde, was putting in tremendous work at initiating the enemy effectively with his team to win consecutive team fights with minimal loss to his own team. His skill is rooted in his ability to play Winston numerous different ways, from backline and protecting the healers to full on aggressive, dealing consistent damage to the enemy DPS line.

During the Thursday match against Seoul, he put up some great defensive and offensive numbers with 43,000 damage blocked alongside 30,000 damage dealt. In total, he had 105 eliminations during the match, with 12 of them coming from the use of his Primal Rage.

The wins Los Angeles Valiant netted this week sees them hit the forth spot in the standings, coming close to competing in the stage one playoffs for $125,000.

JJoNak – NEW YORK EXCELSIOR – ZENYATTA

New York Excelsior finished in first in the standings at the end of stage one, coming very close to winning the playoffs but losing in a close game to London Spitfire. During this final week of stage one, support player JJoNak played amazingly as Zenyatta, putting up some huge elimination and damage numbers, while also maintaining amazing healing stats as well.

Take, for example, the game against London Spitfire on Saturday where he got a total of 85 eliminations with 44,000 hero damage done, with over 36,000 healing done as well. These numbers netted him player of the match, with praise for his expert use of both Zenyatta’s harmony and discord orbs.

His use of Zenyatta’s Orb Volley is also amazing to watch, like in the video below where he times their use perfectly in a doorway on Temple of Anubis to net him not one but two kills in a single use.

He also has a lot of creativity when it comes to on-the-fly plays, using Zenyatta’s skills to his advantage. Take this week’s match against Florida Mayhem, for example, during which he body blocked nearly the entire enemy team on Eichenwalde so that his teammates could push in and get some easy and frantic kills. Not to mention he also killed the enemy Zenyatta directly after this cheeky play.

JJoNak has somewhat flown under the radar so far in stage one, and after his performance this week we are looking forward to watching how he plays in stage two as the season progresses.

PROFIT – LONDON SPITFIRE – JUNKRAT

London Spitfire won the playoffs games against Houston Outlaws and New York Excelsior, netting them the title of stage one champions, even if they are currently third in the official league standings overall. One amazing DPS player to thank for these wins is Profit, who played an amazing Junkrat this week, especially in the last match, to become stage one champs on Saturday.

His use of Junkrat’s tire to kill the enemy healers is successful almost every time, as he’s great at getting a sense of the enemy team placement just before hitting his ult to find the supports like a heat-seeking missile. Killing those healers is a crucial move in securing team fights in the long run, and Profit continues to prove his worth by landing those kills extremely well.

Take the video below, in which he gets a last minute pick on Mercy with his tire, perfectly weaving through the rooms on Dorado to find her just as she’s flying back to support her team. Getting this final pick secured the final team fight, and ultimately granted London Spitfire the win over New York in the playoffs to become stage one champions.

And if you need another example, here is his double kill on the enemy Mercy and Junkrat in an match earlier that same day against the Houston Outlaws:

Heck, he can even shut down an enemy Rip Tire with a simple flick of the wrist as Genji.

With his skills on Junkrat, as well as some great plays with Genji, Profit got player of the day on Saturday alongside his teammate Birdring who will also be getting some praise from us, on the next page.

BIRDRING – LONDON SPITFIRE – WIDOWMAKER

It’s said that London Spitfire has some of, if not the best, DPS players in the entire league. We tend to believe that as well, with DPS maniac Birdring joining his teammate Profit in our standout list this week.

There’s a reason London Spitfire are stage one champions, and along with great team chemistry, DPS players like Profit and Birdring are able to consistently land kill after kill as numerous different characters, to meet different situations. On Saturday, Birdring also got player of the day, alongside Profit, due to his huge numbers as Widowmaker.

Going 54-15, he got almost 30,000 damage done during the match, with 15 critical hit kills in all. Not only that, but Birdring had some great plays as McCree and Genji this week as well, which can be seen in the video down below where we see just one example of him going off on the enemy team with a three-man kill Dragon Blade while still getting out with his life.

London Spitfire are a team to be reckoned with due to their DPS power, and the duo of Profit and Birdring prove they continue to be players to watch.

LiNkzr – HOUSTON OUTLAWS – WIDOWMAKER

LiNkzr, widowmaker, houston outlaws, overwatch league

One final player performance to highlight this week was LiNkzr from Houston Outlaws who played some very solid games as Widowmaker.

He got player of the match on Saturday against Boston Uprising, where he got 26 eliminations and 11,000 damage after only 16 minutes of playing Widowmaker.

He also had some great moments as McCree, the seemingly necessary staple to every Houston Outlaws team composition. During a playoff match against London Spitfire, when the enemy Birdring playing McCree was putting up some crazy numbers, he was still able to pull off some great mid-fight kill-streaks, like in the video below where five Spitfire enemies fall victim to his amazing accuracy with the Peacekeeper, including an ulting Mercy.
