GTA Online Gets Into the Holiday Spirit With Festive Surprise Update

It's Christmas in Los Santos!

While some people spend their Decembers counting down the days until Christmas, GTA V players have been busy counting down the days until the Festive Surprise update finally came around again. If you have logged into GTA Online at all today, the large Christmas tree in your apartment or the massive Christmas tree at the center of Los Santos may have already tipped you off that the Festive Surprise update is now live. The update is bringing all the usual holiday fun to Los Santos like snow falling across the sprawling map in random intervals, holiday decorations in various areas, new holiday-themed clothing and vehicles, and, of course, the option to use snowballs as a weapon. Once you see the snow falling in Los Santos, be prepared for some intense snowball fight action. At this point, you will be able to scoop up snow and hurl snowballs at other players — because hurting people with snowballs is actually the true meaning of the holidays.

Keep in mind that Rockstar also turns into their own version of Santa around this time. Logging into GTA Online during the Festive Surprise update rewards you with various daily gifts. If past Festive Surprise updates are any indication of what you can expect, get ready to see free ammo, themed t-shirts, and various bonuses to enjoy while you wreak havoc across Los Santos for the holidays.

All of this temporary holiday themed content will be joined by some more permanent updates as well. The Sentinel Classic was added in last week’s Doomsday Heist update and is now available to purchase. A new adversary mode called Occupy is also live now in the game. This mode can be played by up to 16 different players spread across six different maps.

More details regarding the update’s content will likely be released later in the day and we’ll be sure to update you as Rockstar unveils more about everything we can expect during Festive Surprise 2017.
