Taking on Missions in Co-Op
5 Things We Can’t Wait to Do in Far Cry 5
Far Cry 5 doesn’t want you to take on the cultists alone, whether you’ve got other friends or family members able to help you out or not. The ‘For Hire’ NPCs, each of which bringing a handy ability to the firefight, will be there when players want to run solo, but there’s something about the prospect of taking on Far Cry 5’s entire campaign in co-op that has us very excited.
In previous entries in the series, we’ve always thought about how bad-ass it’d be if you had a competent buddy by your side, joining you in a two-pronged attack on an enemy camp or laying down some suppressing fire on pursuing vehicles. Far Cry 5 looks set to allow you to do exactly that, and that’s something absolutely worth getting excited about.
You see, with another pair of human-controlled hands, there’s a whole host of creative ways to tackle the same ol’ scenarios. Does one of you run in all guns blazing while the other picks them off with a sniper? Do you charge in with a vehicle while your buddy peppers enemies with rounds from an AK-47? Or do you opt for a complete stealth option and both try and melee your way to success. With an array of weapons, vehicles, and options available to players, the main missions are sure to have a bolstered sense of replayability.
Aerial Dogfights
5 Things We Can’t Wait to Do in Far Cry 5
We’ve flown through the skies in Far Cry games before, but Far Cry 5 decided to take things one step further. Not only do you have Nick Rye in his plane providing ‘Death From Above’ as one of your ‘For Hire’ options, but you’ll also be able to hop into the cockpit yourself and rain down some serious pain on those cultists.
During our time with the game at E3, the aerial dogfights felt like a real breath of fresh air. Not just related to what we played in the short demo, but to the series as a whole. Looping around in the skies, charging after enemy aircraft, and watching them crash and burn over the country terrain of Montana is incredibly satisfying. It’s also a viable option for taking down masses of ground units and vehicles, making you feel like some all-powerful plane-piloting maniac.
Meeting the Weird and Wonderful Resistance Members
5 Things We Can’t Wait to Do in Far Cry 5
If there’s one thing that got us particularly intrigued in Far Cry 5, it’s those resistance members highlighted in a series of trailers when the game was first announced. Pastor Jerome Jeffries, in particular, looks to have some interesting stories to tell, and hopefully, some great missions to join him on, as well.
I mean, c’mon, the guy has a revolver hidden in a hollowed-out Bible, and a shotgun and body armor at the ready. We think it’s safe to say he’s not your typical pastor. Hopefully, Far Cry 5 will truly shine the spotlight on these resident-turn-resistance members, highlighting their stories and having us go on all sorts of crazy missions to put an end to the cult once and for all. Considering a bunch of them got individual trailers, it certainly seems promising, at least.
Customizing Our Character
5 Things We Can’t Wait to Do in Far Cry 5
Yes, we’re well aware that, for the most part, we’ll be taking in Far Cry 5’s action from a first-person perspective, but that doesn’t mean that we won’t spend countless hours perfecting our look in the character creation screen dammit!
With players assuming the role of a Deputy Sheriff who somehow gets tasked with taking on a cult without the help of his cop buddies, many assumed we’d just be put in control of some generic-looking guy. And while it’s unlikely that the game will have an extensive number of options to tweak and adjust in its character creation screen like in Fallout 4, it’s still a fun feature to help personalize each players’ experiences.
Fishing
5 Things We Can’t Wait to Do in Far Cry 5
Far Cry 5’s Montana may be filled with cultists you’ll need to take down, side missions to complete, and a growing resistance you’ll need to co-operate with, but it’s also bustling with a vast array of wildlife. As in previous games, Far Cry 5 will once again have players hunting down animals for crafting materials to make new items or upgrade existing ones. Yes, this will still mostly consist of you chasing boars with a knife, but Ubisoft decided to freshen things up with a really fun fishing mini-game.
Granted, it doesn’t make the whole crafting materials grind feel much more natural than in previous titles, but at least it’s fun. Sometimes, you need to take some time to enjoy nature and appreciate the finer things in life. Imagine it now. Kicking back next to a tranquil lake with a friend after a hard day’s work of squashing a cult’s plans, throwing out your lines and seeing who can get the biggest fish. It’ll be these smaller activities and moments that’ll not only help to make Far Cry 5’s Montana feel more alive, but also provide a more sandbox feel to the co-op experience.
