Middle-earth Shadow of War: Tips and Tricks For Beginners

Tips and Tricks For Beginners in Middle-earth Shadow of War

Recommended Videos

Even if you played the first game, Shadow of War changes up so much of how gameplay works that you’ll likely still feel like a beginner. Many aspects of the game are explained in-depth as you encounter them, and there is a guide in the menu you can use for reference, but there are some things that you won’t figure out until you’ve invested tens of hours playing. As such, we decided to put together a quick list of tips and tricks for beginners to give you a helping hand on your journey across Mordor in Shadow of War.

Save Your Gold And Mirian

Shadow of War Tips and Tricks for Beginners

You’ll earn money for accomplishing various tasks, as well as finding it during your adventure. You can exchange both Mirian, the in-game currency, and Gold, the premium currency, on chests in Shadow of War’s market. These crates can give you orcs and gear, but there’s a catch: they’re tied to your level.

If you waste money on getting chests early on in the game, you’re not going to have anything to show for it later on. The best thing to do is to save your cash until Act IV when you’re at level 50 or so and cash in then.

Play the Campaign One Questline at a Time

Shadow of War Tips and Tricks for Beginners

During Shadow of War, you’ll have multiple people giving you quests. Each quest giver’s missions act as though they narratively come one after the other. To prevent the plot from losing its impact or getting jumbled in your head, it’s best to play as many of one quest giver’s missions at a time before you move on to the next.

Don’t Hold Onto That Old Gear

Shadow of War Tips and Tricks for Beginners

You’ll get a boatload of gear during your adventure across Mordor, and it’ll all fall under one of four rarities: normal, rare, epic, and legendary. It’s common sense that it’s okay to sell standard gear, but what about the more unusual stuff?

The only gear worth holding onto is whatever is strongest in your inventory out of your normal, rare, and epic items, and all legendary pieces of equipment. The reason to scrap everything non-essential besides legendary items is that only legendaries have multiple tiers of upgrades that power them up as you level and complete specific tasks. More powerful weapons will supersede rare and epic items, but as long as you continue to fulfill the upgrade conditions on legendary gear, you can use it to get the great bonuses each set provides.

Dominate Everything

Shadow of War Tips and Tricks for Beginners

It’s easy to get tunnel vision during a fight and get caught up just focusing on your target. You should always keep in mind, though, that dominating a regular grunt or a beast is one less enemy soldier for them and one more ally for you. Some Orc Captains, especially late in the game, are immune to most of Talion’s arsenal, and you’ll have to fight them with extra precision to win. Dominating their troops will ease distractions for you and create openings for you to strike while the enemy captain tries to take out your allies.
