Assassin’s Creed Origins Has No Mission Replay, New Game Plus, and Tailing Quests

A few staple features got axed.

Assassin's Creed Origins, Xbox One X

Assassin’s Creed Origins is a drastic departure for the series with the addition of loot-based RPG systems alongside a Dark Souls-esque combat. Apparently, these are a lot more changes for the upcoming open-world action-adventure game, as some staple features from the series have either been scrapped or tweaked.

YouTuber Centerstrain01, who talked to game director Ashraf Ismail and got his hands on a near-final build of Assassin’s Creed Origins during a London event, revealed a few new changes in a lengthy Q&A video. Firstly, Assassin’s Creed Origins won’t have a mission replay feature at launch. For perfectionists who want to do a full stealth playthrough, you’ll have to either replay the entire game or load your previous save file. It’s definitely a bummer for players who want to replay memorable missions. However, Centerstrain01 said Ismail is considering to add the mission replay feature post-release.

Unlike most action-RPGs, Assassin’s Creed Origins won’t have a new game plus feature. This means you’ll have to start fresh if you want to replay the game. This might disappoint some considering there are plenty of useful upgrades, such as being able to fully enhance your hidden blades to one-hit kill enemies like in previous games, that might make a new game plus more enjoyable. Nonetheless, fans can spend countless hours playing the game as Ubisoft has promised before that there are plenty of end-game missions in Assassin’s Creed Origins.

The Assassin’s Creed series has always emphasized the importance of stealth. It was previously confirmed before that social stealth won’t be included in Assassin’s Creed Origins, meaning players have to effectively avoid enemy detection instead of simply blending with townsfolk. As revealed by Centerstrain01, the team decided to remove social stealth because there are no tailing missions in the game. This is a fitting change considering Ubisoft has hugely tweaked the quest structure to adopt a more freeform approach.

Lastly, Assassin’s Creed Origins does not have a fixed difficulty setting. Players will be given a choice to play on an easy, normal, or hard difficulty setting. Centerstrain01 said he tested all difficulty settings and they only affected the enemy’s durability and attack strength.

More information will likely be announced as we near the game’s release date, but don’t expect Ubisoft to spill information about the game’s modern day setting. Assassin’s Creed Origins launches on October 27, 2017 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
