Step 1: Beat the Story and Level Up to 265 Power
How to Get Ready for Destiny 2’s Raid
Destiny 2’s Leviathan raid is almost upon us, and Guardians around the world are working hard to prepare. While nobody knows exactly what challenges lie in wait for us and our respective Fireteams, we can take some steps to prepare. And the first of those is to beat Destiny 2’s story and boost up to 265 Power.
Beating the story unlocks a lot of nifty new quests and vendors, as well as some useful activities which we’ll get to shortly. Boosting up to 265, or as close to it as possible, is the real important part of this step though. While the recommended Light for the raid is 260-280, 265 will cap your engrams at 260. So, reaching 265 will let the next step boost you higher because it increases the Power of later rewards.
A good way to farm in order to get to 265 is to run non-stop public events. You have even better chances at getting some more loot if you run a Fireteam Medallion and go for Heroic triggers. This will provide a steady stream of rare (blue) drops, with a dash of legendary (purple) and exotic (yellow) drops every now and then. Once you’re above 260, it’s time to start thinking weekly.
Step 2: Weekly Milestones
How to Get Ready for Destiny 2’s Raid
Weekly Milestones are objectives that offer up rewards called Powerful Gear. These are packages that offer up legendaries, as well as the rare exotic now and then. They also drop at higher than 265, which is a soft cap on gear drops. If you want to boost your Power, this is the way to do it.
There are a few different Weekly Milestones that you can and should take advantage of:
Flashpoint – A planet is picked each week for you to run public events on. If you have a Fireteam Medallion, you’ll only need to do four Heroic Public Events to complete this.
Call to Arms – A Crucible Milestone in Destiny 2 that simply requires you grabbing a Fireteam and completing some matches. You don’t have to win, but winning does make it faster.
Nightfall – Take on a strike in its most difficult form. If you win, you’ll get praise and rewards from Commander Zavalla.
Clan – Grab a member of your clan and start completing activities such as Crucible matches and Strikes together.
Each one of these will net you a Powerful Gear package. With any luck, you’ll get pieces where you need them most and watch your Power level climb.
Step 3: Exotic Farming and Mods
How to Get Ready for Destiny 2’s Raid
The thing about exotics in Destiny 2 is that they always have a chance to drop higher than anything else you have. This makes them great for infusion or to simply equip and boost your power. With enemies in the Leviathan raid set to be between 260 and 280 power, using these beautiful yellow engrams to give yourself a leg up is far from a bad idea.
The two most lucrative ways we’ve found for farming these exotic engrams in Destiny 2 is through Strikes and Heroic Public Events (both requiring a Fireteam Medallion). Just grab two other players, pop a coin, and repeat the events to gather as many legendary and exotic engrams as you can. Go back to the Tower and decrypt them whenever your pouch is full (you can carry 10), then repeat. We’ve been able to amass a small armory using these methods, so get out there, Guardians. You can also take on the exotic quests available in the game.
Another thing that can help you with boosting is the mod system present in the game. These come in two rarities, rare (blue) or legendary (purple). While both types provide useful perks and buffs, purples actually increase the Power of the piece of gear you put them on by 5, really pushing you above and beyond. So making use of exotics, as well as mods will help out a ton.
Final Step: Organize and Await the World Eater
How to Get Ready for Destiny 2’s Raid
Now that you’re all powered up, and you’ve hopefully guided your friends to do the same, all you can do is sit back and wait for the World Eater, the Leviathan that comes for us all. You don’t actually have to wait, though. You can continue to grind to eek out a bit more power for your Guardian in Destiny 2.
But you definitely should use this time to organize your team, get your loadouts in order, see who’s running which class, and so forth. A team that communicates and plans together stays strong under pressure. Granted, you can’t fully plan for everything since we don’t know what’s in the raid just yet, but you can get the basic organization down. Also, now is a good time to designate leaders and the such, that way there’s not a ton of yelling when the event actually kicks off. Stay cool, work as a team, and you’ll do just fine.
